Why does RBS direct debit my account 10 days before credit card due date?

I bank with RBS and have a old cash back credit card linked.

My statement date is always the 21st of the month and full balance taken on or around the 5th of the month. So this ties in with the 15 calendar days. To be honest I never even thought about it until I saw this thread as there's never been an issue.

This is the same with the two credit cards we have; we always pay the full amount by DD and the only time the date has been moved is if it falls on a weekend/bank holiday, in which case the payment is taken on the next working day.

Depending when we use the cards, we usually get 52 days interest free days (or thereabouts).
