Does anyone know how to change the default media player on Windows XP?
It's currently set to Windows media player and we want to change it to a more versatile player. We've downloaded a couple, but we can't seem to change the default, so everytime I click on a piece of video etc, up pops the windows player. It's annoying me no end!
Any advice anyone??
Cheers all.

The atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.

you don't say whiuch version of windows so any info is a bit of a guess i think.
For XP the procedure is as follows
open My Computer.
Select Tools from the drop down menu, then folder options - another window opens up
select the "file types" tab and you'll see a list of file types that your pc recognises
scroll down until you find the file type you're looking for eg mp3
select the mp3 file type by left clicking it once - it'll now be highlighted.
Below that, you'll see the "details for mp3 extension" - you'll notice that it says "opens with windows media player"
Click the change button to the right and another window with list of programs opens up.
Select your preferred player and ensure that the box "always use this program for this file type" is checked.
Same procedure can be used for any type of file on your pc
EDIT - i forgot about mostly's method of doing it - far quicker and easier!!
