WARNING - Travelodge Baggage Policy

Hello all,

Just a tip for anyone planning to stay at a Travelodge in the near future – they changed their guest baggage policy in June this year and will NO LONGER STORE BAGGAGE FOR IT’S GUESTS UPON CHECKOUT.

I learned this on Bank Holiday Monday whilst checking out of the York Central hotel and wanting to spend the day there. My partner and I had come on the train and therefore had nowhere else to store our bags. Our choice was carrying them round in the hot sun or going home straight away. We ended up leaving them at the left luggage in the station – incurring a £4 per bag charge and a taxi fare.
Leaving baggage with the hotel you stay in is the least you should expect in my opinion…..

We have stayed here about 5 times before and this has never been an issue.

Could be a problem if you arrive before check in time (of 3pm) and there isn’t a room ready and you want to explore the city you are staying in…. you’ll probably have to take your bags with you!!!!!!

Good Luck!

  • On the other hand you paid peanuts for the room compared with a hotel that does have porterage.

    Hi,
As I said, I have stayed here before and therefore dont expect much for my £65 - but this is a change in their policy and if I was forewarned of this myself I may have put the extra money incurred to store my luggage at the station (and the taxi there) toward a slightly "better" hotel that may not have "porterage" as such BUT at least allows me to store my overnight bag for a few hours whilst I explore the city I've paid to visit! From memory there is a Quality Hotel over the road which I could have looked into had I known about this in advance.

I hope the warning helps other people is all.

Wow, I didn't know that Travelodge still charged £65! We travelled all around England and Scotland in May and only paid £15 a night. I've used Travelodge for years and didn't even know that they had offered this service in the past.

Did they use to actually have a written policy before saying they would look after your bags after you were not a guest there? Or was it just goodwill?
If it was goodwill they don't need to tell customers about the new rules - which is a pain if like you , you are a regular and would have looked into another hotel had you have known.

I imagine it gave the hotel too much of a headache as they cannot take responibility for other peoples belongings... and new security measures probably had a part to play...

Read the t's and c's and see if they mention that they do not take luggage - if not drop them an email saying that you would have made other plans had you have known etc...

The worst change in situations is Holiday Inn Stansted Airports not offering wake up calls anymore? That's crazy considering 90% of their clients have to get 6am flights. Set your phone, mobile, tv to wake you up but it's nice to have the re-assurance of a human being looking out for you!

HOws about left luggage at the train station? Its only about £6 per 24 hours. Most stations should have the facility.

I don't think Travelodge have ever had official baggage storage. It may be that individual staff have offered to keep bags behind the desk or in a bedding cupboard.
If you want all the facilities - pay £200 a night !
