could have been to take the phone.

    if not ...

british but used to live in oslo norway and this was a regular scam, mainly with african migrants - they have a lot there for some reason. trick was to get the phone - if they could then the scam would happen from there, can dig out some details ... it'll be a bill and a half if they got the phone. can only wonder if it's something like this.

Not easy to text a landline which you would expect to be the office number.

I would have said no for sure, it could have been that he wanted to text his own phone and thereby get your numbers from the caller id. Could be tied into some other info he had picked up from you that was going to tie into some scam at a later date.

Where my son used to work all senior managers had company mobile phones. If you wanted to contact a specific person this might have been a more effective way than going through the office. Maybe he was working away from the office and had to meet his boss at a clients property. There could be several reasons to text work.

Don't know if its a scam or not. Anyone wanting my phone would get a 12 year old PAYG, I only keep about £5 in credit at a time if a scam they would have got a shock :rotfl:

So I'm not the only one.

My husband still has one of the original Motorola 'mobiles' that took two arms to lift, though his used phone is more modern than mine; just.

Could be an elaborate chat up routine...you text the supposed work number, and then he replies from his own phone "hey gorgeous, thanks for giving me your number ;);) "
    Or some such.
  • If in doubt, don't. I think though the fact that he said he wouldn't be late anyway suggests he could have just been annxious, maybe saying that so you didn't feel bad about not lending him. Had this been me I would have just lied and said no credit!
If my post doesn't appear to be serious, then it is not serious. So what? Kick back, relax enjoy life and have a little fun. Life is far far too short to be grumpy!!!!
