Husband had successful PPI Claim but has deceased before payment was made

My wife recently had a PPI claim agreed for historic PPI (for an account solely in her name) but has since passed away. The bank have sent a letter confirming the refund and have asked for bank details to pay refund to. The account has to be in her name or they can send a cheque in her name but she has to fill in the form, sign it and send it back to release the payment.
My question is, if I contact the bank to tell them that she has passed away, will they retract the refund and say that they done owe it any more? or will they have to give it to me instead (as benefactor to the will)?
Any advice greatly appreciated as its financially difficult already so I really don't want to lose this payment.
Thank you

The money belongs to the estate and should be distributed in accordance with the Will. So, they will make the cheque payable to the executor. They would also want to see the death certificate and possibly probate.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
