Nationwide PPI - Ombudsman rejected claim, reapply?

Hello

I'm posting on behalf of a friend and wondering can anyone help.

He tried to claim PPI from Nationwide years ago but a letter came back and Ombudsman rejected it and said he wasn't entitled to anything. Think it was for a mortgage through the Nationwide.

Someone told him he can re challenge it due to the new D-Sar (something like that)

He's not sure what way to go about this now or if any company could try for him or maybe it's a waste of time to try again?

Joe

its game over for him. he complained. it was rejected by the firm. He appealed to the FOS and they rejected it. That is it.

Some banks are reopening older complaints which were rejected and didnt go to the FOS to check the original decision was correct. That does not appy your friends case as they went to the FOS

  • I recently read something about a different approach to ppi, something about responsibility to have disclosed commission paid on ppi insurance if it was over 50%.

I am in the same position as the member above in as much as my claim ref nationwide ppi was rejected by the ombudsman. Can I make a new claim about commission paid?
  • They should have already revisited Plevin on your rejected complaint. But you could always check with them.

It's nothing to do with making claims.

There has never been any regulatory requirement for the commission to be disclosed. However, a change in the consumer credit act 2006 (effective 2008) means that for debts covered under the consumer credit act and that existed after 2008, the commission should have been disclosed.

So, if you held a Nationwide MPPI (not third party arranged by a broker/adviser) and you held the Nationwide mortgage after 2008, then you can make a Plevin enquiry.

Plevin checks are automatically made on all complaints that were rejected in the last 2 years.

The OP of this thread was posting in 2015, but if your complaint is more recent then whether a Plevin refund is applicable should already have been checked as part of the complaint investigation. Still, no reason why you can't check with the Bank if it has already been considered.
  • Thanks guys. Help much appreciated.
