O/S Daily Wednesday 23 December 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

DH up and getting ready for work. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit.

Still dark, starting raining during the evening last night and it has now stopped, but everywhere wet with laying water, still blustery.

Dinner last night was scampi, chips, beans/veg for the menfolk, I had fish, jacket potato, and veg. I remembered to get the chicken pieces out to defrost, so we’ll have those with potatoes, veg and LO’s to get all those used up and not thrown away.

Work yesterday wasn’t that busy although there was quite a few staff, but last I heard the building work and new technology that we’re supposed to start using today wasn’t working – I’m the person on the rota to be dealing with that – so that’s going to be fun if it’s not! Good job I’m only working until lunchtime, then not back until next Wednesday for my normal half day then off the following week, so hoping it will all have settled down by the time I get back!

Keep safe and well x

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's too dark outside to see what the weather is doing but I'm going to guess it's raining. I was up early with my grandson but he's now happily watching Paw Patrol so I get a few minutes peace. Poor little chap, he still isn't feeling too bright but I am hopeful he will pick up before Christmas.

Hubby is going back to work today after his day off yesterday. He told me that the company he works for has been bought out so we are in for some uncertain times ahead. Oh well, I'm not going to worry about it this year, we will see what happens when he goes back in the New Year.

Butterfly Brain, I shuddered when you were writing about having injections in your eyeballs :eek::eek:, I can't even manage to have contact lenses fitted :rotfl:. I hope your eyes continue to improve after all that.

nmlc, thank you for starting the thread, I know what you mean about new technology, they just install it and then leave you to figure it out...and yes, I am looking at you dear Husband :rotfl::rotfl:. I hope it all gets up and running for you.

I'm just making sausage and chips for tea, I have the big Christmas shop being delivered this morning so that is going to be fun trying to put everything away. The girls will be called into service thats for sure.

Anyway, that's all from me for now, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

I know and you're welcome :D:D Hope OH is OK – ouch! Xx

The blind is finally up in the bathroom, four days later than planned :D It looks messy though. We drilled into the lintel – which turns out to be a bit higher than it should be. The previous owners had used a smaller window than what it was built for, so had rendered a very thick layer above the window, then plastered over it. Would've made more sense to build it up from the bottom, yes? Especially as it's a bit low over the sink. Anyway, not a problem, but the rendering was very badly done so the drill went in about a centmetre then shot through really easily – it seems to be full of little gaps. Tried moving the blind forward a bit but the same thing happened so we gave up. The brackets are the wrong type to fit to the wall either side, they have to face either down or forward. We did the only thing we could think of – drilled into the window frame :D We'll have to take it down again after Christmas to fill in the four drill holes and paint over it.

Master tru moved the sink yesterday – he was supposed to just put it central under the window (his idea in the first place, we weren't too bothered) but he decided to put it a bit higher too, because that height suited him better! So the pedestal now wasn't tall enough, it was too close to the already low window and the flexi-pipes were stretched to their limit. I was really cross and made him move it to where we agreed in the first place, I could hear him moaning and swearing as he was doing it but I just left him to his own misery.

I've got so much paper to shred, it's ridiculous! I use it for the chicken shed but I'm never going to get through all of this. So I'll go through it and keep anything with personal info on it and recycle the rest. I really need the space in the hall cupboard for my craft supplies :D

The wrapping didn't go too well, I must get it finished today.

I have to cook the gammon today, it's still frozen in the middle.

So now that I've finished moaning, I'll catch up on yesterday's thread :D

  • Good morning, it is very blowy here so will put some washing on in a minute for OH to hang out while I am at work.

Last day at the office until after the new year for me, though I will need to bring the laptop home as some things are likely to need attention tomorrow and next week.

I have still very little voice but have only been able to test this by talking to myself, hopefully people will email me today rather than ringing up.

Hope everyone has a good day, still thinking of Deleted_User and floss.

  • Morning all. Wild and windy outside by the sound of it but we have sun forecast and NO rain!!! Just been catching up on last night's Masterchef which I slept through!

By teatime yesterday I really was losing the will to live. DD's get-together with her friend and kids didn't happen - friend suffering d & v!! So she wondered if we would have the 3 girls longer so she could do her shopping after work. No problem, I said. But I hadn't foreseen half the town waiting for blood tests and, between them, the pharmacy and the surgery making a total c*ck up of Mr TA's medication which we eventually went on to collect. This took almost an hour to sort out and still need to go back! We had the 3 girls in tow too which didn't help. The traffic in town was horrendous and by the time we got to Aldi for a few last minute bits we had been out for almost three hours! They had run out of decent cauli but I was past caring and that's now off the menu!! Then threw my own script in Boots to collect after Xmas, went home to await DD picking up the girls and collapsed with a much needed large glass of white wine or three!!

Today no children to look after which eases the burden a bit! So a much needed tidy round and dust and vac to do everywhere will be the first job. Then the kitchen and bathroom to clean. By this afternoon I will throw in the towel and what's not bought or done won't get bought or done!! Then perhaps I can start to enjoy Christmas!!

Have a nice day everybody (((((((HUGS)))))))) to all in need. Glad the hospital visit went ok CSARINA but so sorry the family problems are still ongoing. Take care all xx

    Hi everyone,

I finished the wrapping yesterday, apart from a book I bought son-in-law on Saturday which has disappeared. It might turn up when I pack everything up for our journey to Yorkshire this afternoon. DH is bein pessimistic about getting everything in the car especially as we have a new dishwasher (slimline) to take and I bought a potted Christmas tree because Waitrose were selling them off for a tenner. I reminded him that we used to travel up with two teenagers (both six footers) and two dogs, together with all the luggage and presents fr a 10 day stay.

I made mince pies yesterday - I always make frangipane topped ones because dH loves almond so I buy in sweet pastry for the bases. They turned out beautifully but I made a big one in a tart tin which turned out to have a soggy bottom so I think I'll make some more small ones today.

    Have a good day.
  • Oh SNOOZER, a soggy bottom! You'll have Mary Berry after you!! xx

    Morning everyone,

Cold and clear this morning, the wind has a real bite to it and I needed gloves for the first time in ages on the girls walk.

Need to do the bathrooms this morning and change the beds, then off to the farm shop to pick up Turkey and fresh veg etc, just heard on the radio that shops are expecting the festive rush to peak at 12 today, lord.
Feeling a bit better today as my sinuses have mostly cleared, my ears are still ringing though which is irritating. At least the weather is looking like it will be dry today so hope to get Billy out for a long walk as doubt will have much time over the next few days, when I turned up yesterday he had obviously had a good roll in the mud and resembled a hippo rather than a horse :(

Hope everyone has a good day, take care folks x

    Morning All

Sorry so many of you are feeling poorly, get well soon.

Congrats on the new GS judi, handsome lad.
Thanks for the carol again tru.
BB - That sounds awful, made me shudder. Hope you're ok.

DS2 and I got back from our travels just after 10 last night, we collected DD from work on our way and took her home. She needed a hug as she found out on Monday that she has lost her job from the end of January. Just what you need when you have recently taken on a mortgage.

Went to Bury market yesterday - not the full market but it was still good. Bought some black pudding, it may stay in the fridge for some time!

Anyway, glad to be back from my travels, saw everyone I went to see and picked up some bits and bobs. Aunt gave me a massive meat plate, must be about 3 foot long - very impressive but not sure where to keep it and it will take up most of the table! She also gave DS2 a bust of Wagner which he thinks is fantastic. My cousin gave me a Moorcroft vase, not sure where to put that but it is beautiful.

Anyway, must take the car to be washed today as it is really dirty from all that motorway driving and then have to get the fresh stuff for christmas. Taking friends to the airport this evening and then I can relax.

    Take care. XX
