Six month saving challenge

Options
Hello all, newbie here!

I am currently saving to go travelling in June. I will be working at a summer camp in New York for two months, travelling across the states for another month and then hopping over to Australia for around a year (unless I find a secure job).
I have already saved £3.5k from August alone and I am planning on saving another £4K before June however I would appreciate any tips and advice on how I can improve my savings and also enhance my income.
Looking forward to keeping this diary for motivation for my saving!

Hi deanwharton, Welcome and good luck.

Advice I would give includes taking sandwiches to work, using a pay as you go phone and What's App, take only £10 for spending money to work a week, and don't do what I did and get carried away with internet shopping on stuff you already have. lol.:rotfl:

    Happy saving. :j

    FOOD

    1. Make use of your commute to work by doing your shopping on the way back to home. Always visit the supermarket if you pass it on the way home because the isles which have reductions on sell a lot of items at 5% when they are at their best before date.
    2. Plan your meals ahead of time and make a shopping list. Pick 1-2 snacking meals which you can eat in between which are really filling.
    3. Go to the cheapest supermarket. Its all the same food with just a different label and different preparation technique for convenience.
    4. Buy wholesale foods if you enjoy 1 type of food more than others. For example if you like Chips don't buy Potatoes from the supermarket, buy them from a Vegetable Wholesaler instead. £5 for 25 kilo where I live.
    5. Take a Icebox in your Car or use the work Fridge. Make big work lunches such as Tomato Pasta, Salads, Beetroot and Sandwiches. If your full your be more productive.
    6. Collect biodegradable fuel such as paper, wood and cardboard which people have thrown away. When you get home use this on a BBQ or Camp stove to cook your food.
    7. If you have a wood burner stove in your lounge put a kettle ontop of it in winter and then your be saving money on electric for tea and coffee. You can also get Dutch Ovens which cook food.
    8. If there is any food approaching its best before date put it in the freezer or cook it and stick it in the fridge (will keep for a few days).
    9. If your in the cant be bothered mood when it comes to cooking instead of going to the take-away go to the a crown carvery where you can spend £4 on a carvery and have unlimited veg. Turn your plate into a mountain and pile on the gravy. Alternatively you can spend £4 for a breakfast and have unlimited everything.
Eat as much as you can and sneak in a bottle of water. Yum Yum.
    10. Take advantage of the online supermarket delivery offers. You can get £10-£25 off your grocery order if your a new customers. This is a good way to save on branded items which supermarkets tend to keep at competitive prices.
