Can I blag my home address when registering my car insurance?

Basically my licence is registerred to my parents address in the country but I actually live in Liverpool. If I register my insurance to my parents' home address too it would cut the cost of the insurance in half. But could I get away with it? I know most people are going to say no to this but has anyone actually tried it?
Many Thanks

You *could* get away with it, and lots of people do.
However, you need to be very careful as they WILL check, if you ever make a claim.
For instance, your telephone number will need to match your parents address. Also they'll probably run some sort of credit check so the address you registered with the bank needs to match.
In addition, you'll need to be on the voting register at that address too. (Bear in mind it's illegal to register false details on the electoral roll)
They have BIG computers that cross reference all your details. If any of it doesn't match then alarm bells will start ringing and they'll delve deeper.
If you get caught you could go to prizz for fraud.0 -
When I met DH, we lived in London, and his folks in Norfolk. He had the adjoined bungalow to tehm.
He was registered at the address, paid bills etc., but rented from GF during the working week (3 ~ 4 days out of every 7), and was in Norfolk the rest of the time, so technically I guess he was in the clear.
He did have a claim, and it was all fine.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
Doubtful if anyone else has tried fraud here.
if your registered address isn't Liverpool then i doubt the insurance comapny will believe that that is where the car will be kept when parked.
And if your licence is "registered" to your parents house in the country you're committing an offence with that too.
if you want cheaper insurance you'll need to change your car, move house or change company.

As Barrymung points out, it is very easy for insurers to catch you out, both at the inception stage (when you take the policy out) and when you come to claim as well.
The classic is when your car is stolen for your home (higher probability in Liverpool) and you report it to the police. Your lies will catch you out - either you lie to the police or lie to the insurer and hope the two never speak to each other - but we do though.
Likewise, you take a car to be repaired and give the garage your Liverpool address / contact details, forgetting about the lie. Insurers engineer spots the error.
Depending on the car and the need to stay in Liverpool, consider keeping it in a garage or fitting a tracker (for more desirable cars).0
