Slightly underhand (Lifesearch)

I recently used compare the market to price up life insurance to cover the mortgage, ticking the contacy by email box only. I received a phone call by a company called lifesearch the following day who said they deal with compare the market to oversee products and services and to expand on the options not available directly via the site. I have checked and they are a legit company but only seem to deal with LV and Legal & General insurance. This therefore seems a little underhanded and misleading as i thought they were giving independant advice on top of my original query. Has anyone else had a similar call after using the site?

Why did you give out your phone number?
Next time you see a "compulsory" field for your phone number maybe think twice why it's compulsory before giving your "active" number!0 -
I use truecall38. Give your contact number as 033388888888.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages, student & coronavirus Boards, money saving boards. I have before when using my phone number, since then I just put the phone number as either the contact number for the site or just 0800000000 so it fills the required length for the field
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I know what you're saying (I do it too) but it is a sorry state of affairs when people feel they have to give fake details to avoid being called even when they tick/untick the boxes with their contact preferences.
I tend to use a random jumble of numbers rather than 0800000000 so there may be some poor sod getting spam calls because I happened to randomly use their number to get an insurance quote and avoid being harrassed by the Insurer.
I may start using the companies sales phone number if I am forced to enter a contact number.0 -
