Oven Dead - Hob/Grill Working....???

Options
Hi all,

In perfect time for messing us about for xmas dinner, the oven part of our cooker decided it no longer wanted to turn on last night.

The grill and hobs still work fine but when twisting the dial for the oven, nothing happens.

It still clicks past 0 as normal ( so i dont think the dial itself is broken), but the little light to say its on doesn't light up, and the oven itself seems completely lifeless, no light, no fan movement and no heat.

Its a Logic LFTC50W12.

Im not at all knowledgeable about electrical's other than PC's. Iv taken off the faceplate type things on the wall socket and also where the wires connect to the cooker an cant see anything evident, no burning or similar, all looks fine, and nothing seems loose.

Is there anything else fairly simple or common that could cause this, or am i just looking at a whole new cooker?

I would suggest that the element has failed. These are sometimes visible inside the oven, in which case you might see where it has blown but more usually they are hidden behind the side and rear covers. Bit more investigation required. Needless to say, turn off at mains before removing covers over elements.

Just seen in your OP that no light, no fan. Has the timer accidentally been set?
  • Nope, it doesn't have a timer or anything, very basic just 6 dials/nobs on the front. 4 hobs, a grill and an oven.

I'd second the element. A bit late to buy one online now for Christmas, i think i paid about £20 and it;s a pretty easy job.

  • Is it easy enough to tell once i open the back if the element is dead?
  • where about are you? I can think of 3 places where I live that sell spare appliance parts im sure other parts of the country still have good old fashioned spare part shops

If there's no light & no fan I doubt the element is the problem. It could be one of many things though, broken wire, faulty connector, faulty switch...

Check here to see what your make of oven will cost for a new element

And this is just one sample on YouTube how to do the job, if you're lucky there may be more videos showing how to test, or even your make of oven.

If there's no light and now OP has confirmed it is a simple set up with no timer etc., I suspect no power is getting to oven. Is it separately fused? I have known some elements to take out the fuse when blowing. Might be time for an electrician - while there is still time to fix before Christmas.
