Am after a simple to use encryption software to protect my USB pen drive, is there a best one, or easy to use one? A friend at work mentioned one (cant remember the name of it, sounded something like a ladies name??). I'll be using it on both work PC and home desktop and laptop, so assume I'll need to programme loaded onto each computer I intend to use?

Are you actually allowed to load whatever program you want onto your work PC or is it locked down? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

If you aren't allowed to install software on your work PC, then one of the few options is to use an encrypted USB Flash Drive which uses hardware only. It costs £gasp! though...0

Bitlocker if your work or home PC is Windows 8.1 or 10 Professional/Enterprise. Windows Vista onwards can read it but you need certain versions to do the initial encryption. Bitlocker is probably not the absolute best thing but more than sufficient for just about anyone at home or in business.0

I tried some of the free ones a few years ago and I could wipe the data on the usb memory stick so I purchased an 8gb Kingston Data traveller Usb memory stick with built in encryption and works perfectly but was cheaper than this one

Deslock and PGP are the main ones in use by businesses .
But to be honest, for what you want it for, any free encryption package should do.0 -
if encrypting just your sensitive files is an option for you then AXCrypt.0

DESlock?! Is that still going? I remember getting a free copy on a magazine coverdisk around 15 ago. It worked brilliantly, but wasn't compatible with Linux, so I switched to Truecrypt. I'm still using it... I'm not sure whether it's worth switching to something that's currently supported. I don't need government-grade encryption, so... I'll probably stick with it for the time being.Deslock and PGP are the main ones in use by businesses .0 -
The Corsair Padlock sticks with a PIN pad on them have the merit of not needing any software at all on the host machine. The early ones were rubbish and could be defeated with a paper clip, but for the last few years they've worked properly (ie, actually encrypting the data) and aren't too expensive.
