Offered a job but can't pay first months nursery fees

Frankly I would cancel any direct debits etc for current debts/bills, use it to fund nursery then deal with the consequences later. Will all be rectifiable, especially with income from full-time work.0

Have you spoken to the nursery about this? I know that they generally all ask for payment in advance, but this can't be the first time that this problem has occurred - parents might get into arrears for any number of reasons and most good nurseries will try to work with them. They may well make an exception under the circumstances. Can your husband take parental leave for a few weeks, get an advance on his wages, can he get a loan or an overdraft - I know that you say your credit is bad but what about his?0

Make it the jobcentre's problem - they do have discretionary funds, but don't publicise this. Contact your local mp and explain your dilemma. And ask your new employer about childcare vouchers-the nursery are likely to accept part payment in knowledge that childcare vouchers will be forthcoming. Don't turndown a job because of childcare-perhaps you could ask to delay start date in order to sort out childcare costs?0

Hi. Congrats on your new job but it's a shame you had to decline it. Your message says you are on JSA with a 2 year old baby. My question would be why on that kind of benefit as i think you should be on Income Support as your child is under 5years old and there is a fund available to Jobcenter to help people like yourself if they need to go back to work.

Why would the OP be on income support when she has clearly stated her husband is in employment ?
In the OP's shoes I think I'd be getting her husband to apply for paternal leave -it's very possible his employers may offer a loan as an alternative if it would cause them staffing problems.
Alternatively could any family member come to stay for a week or two to cover some of the month.
I'd also consider seeing if the local paper would be interested in covering the story and I'd also contact my MP.
She's not covered every option just yet !I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I'm so angry at myself for getting in to debt over the years it's really impacting my life now.
You need a radical solution then, it would be a shame to let the higher paying job go as next time you could only be offered min wage with the only good being convenience?? if there can't be honesty and it's to late send a thank you I'm sorry to pass letter/card and hope the job comes up again once you've more opportunity to deal with such issues for the future (oh it does happen! Believe me
) all is not lost. x 0 -
Thanks I have as pointed out by another poster who has done their homework got debts and have no way of raising £700. I've tried all you have suggested. desperate to get out to work and sort debt but not sure what I can do to raise £700. On top of this by turning down the job my jsa gets stopped. I'm so angry at myself for getting in to debt over the years it's really impacting my life now.
Have you asked both employers for a salary advance?0 -

Have you asked new employer for a salary advance?
Has other half asked employer asked for a salary advance?
Has other half asked for some unpaid leave?
Have you asked the jobcentre for a loan or other assistance?
Have you raided the house for old electronics, jewellery, clothes, furniture that you can sell? If you have anything valuable like jewellery or a good TV or games console, have you taken it to a Cash Converters for an advance on it's value that enables you to 'buy back' the items when you get paid?
Have you asked the bank for a temporary overdraft facility?
Have you applied for a credit card in either yours or your partner's names?
Have you applied for a payday loan in either yours or your partner's names?
Have you asked around other nurseries to find either a cheaper option or one who will allow you to pay later instead of upfront? You can always move to the nursery of preference when the income settles.
Have you started to cancel direct debits for any and all bills or rent due for one month, as one month of arrears should not cause any major difficulties when you will have full time income in the following month?
If you haven't exhausted at least all of the above, then frankly you haven't done enough and obviously just don't want the job.0
