Do I have to pay gas cut off ?
Hi ,
I own a small business, and we moved to a new premises. There is a gas meter there, and we are not planning to use it. I ask the gas supplier to cancel the contract (I don't want gas) but they want to charge us £295 for meter removal + £913 (+VAT) for cutting off the pipe ?
Can they legally charge me for this ? I never asked to have gas, what should I paid to get it disconnect ?
Thanks

Check to see if there is a standing charge and if not simply do not use it, You may not have asked for gas but you found the new premises and must have known it had gas in there so cannot blame the supplier for having a utility installed as most businesses would require heat.0

most business if not 99% have standing charge costs, the disconnection fee is payable alsoDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

You "never asked for gas " but you ve got it and if you want to stop the very hefty standing charges you will have to go along with what the supplier says. I would have thought that your tenancy agreements stipulate that when you vacate you will have to reinstate the gas meter. If you think you re in there for the long haul it may be economic to pay up.
One smallish unit I went to were being charged over £400 per annum standing charges by BG and they got the meter out and capped which stopped it0
