HSBC offers a currency account. It is new, I think. There is no monthly fee and they offer it in 14 or so currencies. You can transfer your money to an HSBC sterling account (free) or make payments internationally (fee).

However I eventually gave up looking for a functional account in the UK. So last time I was in Germany I opened account with ComDirect. www.comdirect.de So far they've been excellent. You can download the forms online and when you're in Germany take them to a post office. They then open the account. I was missing some documents and it was fine they just asked me to email them.

The account has no fees, you can make SEPA payments around the EU for free. It comes with a VPay Giro card and a Visa card if you want it and last month they gave me a €50 bonus. When in Germany you have access to Commerzbank branches and ATMs.
    Thanks for this info.

So Comdirect provided you with the account as a non-resident, using a UK residential address? Can you outline their requirements?

I would be interested in this as well. Can anyone confirm if Comdirect accepts an UK address when opening the account?

    Can anyone help me please?

I have transferred an amount of euros from my Barclays euro account to my Barclays current account online on Sun 1st May;(asked for transfer in euros).

I've printed out the confirmation that the transfer is in progress, but as at 4th May it still hasn't transferred. The funds are there, and I realise it was actioned on a Sunday, then a Bank Holiday followed, but.....still this morning, no transfer.

How long does this take online?

    Call Barclays and ask them?
I don't see any possible reason for this transaction to take more than one working day.
