Maria - that is such a sweet compliment :)

ps: Foxgloves - I meant to say that I very much enjoyed reading about the furry four-legged one's exploits the other day :D

  • Hi everyone :D
I can't believe it's already after 2pm and I'm only just getting on here. I'm starting to panic that it's only a couple of days until Christmas and I'm still 2 presents short of being finished (both made but it's a time thing). Couple that with my inherent control freak nature and not knowing what is happening with dh then I am feeling the strain a bit.
I didn't want to get up this morning but me and ds had a hair appointment at 8am so had to...
Things I have done so far today (not aiming for MSE - just aiming for survival at the moment).
:xmassmile Been to hairdressers at 8am
:xmassmile Been to butchers to collect Christmas meat (pork, chicken, pigs in blankets and stuffing)
    :xmassmile Made lunch
:xmassmile spoken to my local carers association
:xmassmile knit a Christmas angel for next door neighbour
    :xmassmile bit of housework
    And still to do
:xmassmile meet with the carers association at 5pm
:xmassmile take the kids to visit dh
:xmassmile see my own doctor this afternoon
:xmassmile complete niece's blanket (nowhere near as gorgeous as yours CLF)
:xmassmile work on the toy unicorn for my friend's daughter
    :xmassmile declutter
:xmassmile check banking and sort out next month's budget.
  • Evening everyone :) thank you LaE for starting us off this morning :)

CCL - sending you all massive hugs

CLF - can't see the blanket as computer at work isn't showing it :( but will have a look when I get home tonight as it sounds really nice :D

Quite productive this morning (see my list) which I am quite pleased about.

Rather annoyed when coming into work today as no where to park in the car park and everyone seemed to be standing/sitting chilling!! And the amount of people just walking through the middle of the lanes!! Anyway I finally parked and inside is heaving too, it's days like this I am glad I sit in my little box!! haha

On another note, went round my mums last night and she had been given some chocolates from my cousin when she visited them in Essex. My cousin was going to throw them away because they were only just out of date and apparently she does it a lot!! It really upsets and angers me :/ it is such a waste - especially when there are starving people out there!! I don't know about you guys but I hardly ever look at the sell by dates for things if it is good I will use it. If it looks/smells bad I wont't. The only food I really check is meat. Anyway feel like I've had enough rants today haha.

    Today's list:
    FPL
    Luckyphone
    Survey's
Check for MS's (there was a couple but don't feel like doing them over the festive period - so not sure why I'm looking tbh haha)
    Enter a few comps
Make cheesecake for Xmas day :) (even tempered some chocolate and made antlers, eyes and a mouth to make it into a Rudolph one with a glace cherry for the nose!!)
    B/L/D from stores

That's about it for me today :)
    xx

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Good evening everyone

Not had time to post till now. It's been a real treat reading the thread today so much awesome money saving going on.

Carrie - I also am very impressed with your gorgeous blanket. Such craftsmanship!

    So today's small things.

    1. Checked banking
    2. Scanned in 8 reciepts for the 1p from checkoutsmart and shoptize plus the free draw chances.
    3. Found 7p roadkill
    4. Was sent a £2.50 coupon by Arseda for nappies. We don't have one nearby but I will go and look for that sort of saving.
    5. Booked my son's dental check up. Free plus making use of OH being on annual leave to take him.
    6. Son did a free baking class today and made a festive cookie for Santa.
    7. Opened mail and filed immediately.
    8. Spoke to my mum who said she'd put a cheque in for my son's Christmas present.
    9. Walked all journies
    10. Tidied my purse and made sure all coupons were still valid plus put the new nappies one in.

Ziggy - how scary to have a gas leak. How will you be cooking Christmas dinner?

Chocolate - we cross posted. I totally agree with you about the smell test..I use all my leftovers. It's a cold day in hell when food goes in my bin.

    Love to all

    Bob

CLF - Yes, the Furred 4-legged one is certainly entertaining. Worst behaved cat we've ever had, but funny & nive natured (as in only bites mr f!)

Chocolatelover - I so agree with you about best before dates. We"ve bought some cheeses from supermarket cheese counter today which are labelled 'Use by 26th Dec'. It's cheese, for goodness sake! A fermented matured product. It"s easy to tell when it's off because it gets mould on it. We go on appearance, smell & then taste and if it's all fine then we eat it. One of the best put of date hauls we got for free was when mr f was offered several packs of just out of date ground coffee which couldn't be used for the customer coffee machine. It was a good brand & of course there was absolutely nothing wrong with it & it was headed for the bin if nobody wanted it. So I'm with you & will continue to use common sense as our ancestors did before us.

2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!
  • Bob and Foxgloves - I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels like that and uses the good old sniff test! I can't believe how much people waste!
Apparently she does it a lot too which is such a waste :/
Foxgloves I could just imagine a caveman checking something for a sell buy date before catching it for tea :rotfl:

** Cat - been thinking of you
** Ziggy, been thinking of you too, I know you have a lot going on at the moment, hope all is well

Take care everyone, will aim to post a list tomorrow

Evening all, its a very late check in from me but its been a busy old day!

Thanks LE for the start :)
CLF - Your blanky looks amazing! I live in South Wales.
Ziggy, hope you are feeling ok now, how are you going to cope for Christmas?
Chocolatelover - I absolutely hate waste also! I get really cross with myself if anything hits the bin that should/could have been saved!
Bob, sounds like you've had a productive day! I need to sort out my purse as I'm sure I have some vouchers that I don't need in there anymore.
CCL- good news that DH has been moved nearer home. Take care of yourself.
Foxgloves - as I read that you'd had laundry on the full price tariff I thought to myself I must have misread who's post I was reading!
Lambda - hope your car is working well again!
    Hi to everyone else.

Today's been quite good on the small things...
£ Went to the gym to make the most of my membership
£ Filled water bottle at the gym
£ Called into Farmfoods on the way home to get some washing powder & a few other bits (used my phone's calculator to make sure I got as close to the £25 (£25.36) as I could so that I could use a £2.50 off £25 shop.
£ 4 of us shared the same bath water
£ Used some old conditioner that my sis didn't like instead of shaving gel on my legs (and used a razor from an unopened pack I claimed when our tenant moved out earlier in the year)
£ Made a spag bol for tea using veggies I'd previously chopped and frozen from the ends of peppers etc
£ Helped my dad for an hour round at the house putting doors back on. He's still got to cork all the skirting boards and repaint them, Needs to be finished by Thursday as the tenants will be back the day after boxing day
£ My sister came with the 20 jars of mayo! so I had to find somewhere to store them, I decided to turn out a cupboard that has our pressure cooker/keep warm dishes etc and hidden round the corner (its a cupboard that goes in to corner by the sink so don't use the back of it for much but the shelf support came out of the back and my arms weren't long enough to get it so I asked hubby to do it and hidden against the side wall were 3 packs of tassimo coffee with a best before date of april 2008!!!! omg I was gutted! Hubby gave the tassimo away to a friend at work a year or so ago so he's messaged him to ask him if he wants them, if he doesn't then I think I'll try opening the pods and try to use them another way! CAN'T STAND WASTE!!!
£ Finished reading Gangsta Granny to the boys this afternoon and then after tea DH found it on iplayer so they watched it :) It was nice as ds2 kept saying "oh they have changed this/that"etc so at least I know he's actually listened as I've read to them! (This sounds really bad but its the first proper book I've read them from the start to finish :( I've never liked reading out loud so I've done the little story books when they were little but nothing more, they have both already chosen the next book and have had a couple of pages before bed - I've gotta make up for it I guess!)
    £ Checked banking/luckyphone/fpl etc
£ Me & dh have had leftovers for our tea
£ Sent my dad home with enough spag bol sauce for tonight & tomorrow night so that they've got a quick meal after working in the tenants.
I'm sure theres been more but I'm missing masterchef!

    Evening all :)
    Hugs to CCL
Congrats to Carrie, that blanket is absolutely beautiful :)
Ziggy, hope your gas leak gets sorted before Christmas?

Well, a spendy day today, nothing MSE about it except for finishing off the quiche for supper with jacket spuds and salad :o

Went to the city to see a pantomime with DDI, her OH and 2 little GDs :) We decided to go by train rather than drive, but ended up having to get a taxi for the last part of the journey home as our little connecting train was going to be an hour late, and it was pouring down with rain  DD and SiL had paid for panto tickets and lunch for our birthday presents, but we bought drinks in the interval, ice cream for the little ones and train and taxi fares, so not as expensive as it might have been.

    Other than that:
No heating, and no wood burner either tonight, as it is so warm, even though pouring with rain
    Some postal survey tasks
    Checked FPL

    And that is it :o
    Must do better tomorrow!
Foxgloves I could just imagine a caveman checking something for a sell buy date before catching it for tea :rotfl:
