O/S Daily Tuesday 22nd December 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit.
Still dark, but either raining or has been during the night as there’s laying water, cooler than it was but still not cold for the time of year.
Dinner last night was the Chinese food we were going to eat Saturday night, it was lovely, we had chicken in black bean sauce, veg and egg fried rice and lightly spiced noodles, with pancake rolls, dumplings and prawn toast – was delicious. Tonight the menfolk will be having scampi, chips, beans/veg, I’ll be having fish, jacket potato and veg, easy dinner as I want to get the xmas cake iced and do some present wrapping, so a few jobs to do tonight when I get in.
Work yesterday was reasonably busy – so will see what today brings! I’m working at the other office so I’m expecting the telephone enquiries to be busy.
Thanks for those that gave advice/comments regarding my family matter – I think it was Judi, that said why don’t I just ask, I completely see your point, but I know how this people work and if I ask then they can just come back with all sorts of excuses about how long it takes for everyone to sign etc or other excuses. When SIL told me and then realised I didn’t know what the hell she was talking about, she gave me the impression that may be she realised she shouldn’t have said anything, so I’m best of not saying anything and just sit back and watch and wait to see what unravels. It’s sounding like the family members that live away will all be visiting after xmas and near New Year – so I’m thinking that if anything is going to be said/happen it’s likely to be then/or around then. I’m going to sit tight, if I say/do nothing until they approach me I can’t be accused of anything, can I? If I go in asking politely calmly/all guns blazing they can feed me what stories they want but at present they are doing whatever and I’m not happy but can keep my distance. Whatever is going on has been for several weeks already – and they haven’t bothered to mention it to me yet – so I’ve already been excluded up to this point, so I sort of know where I stand already, iykwim? I’m now at the point where I keep my distance, and am polite etc but certainly don’t get pushed in to doing anything I don’t want to for my immediate family and myself. I’d never stop my boys visiting having anything to do with them, as up to now they haven’t done anything to them, but I watch very closely.
Keep safe and well x

Well I didn't clean the patio yesterday, I was soooo busy doing other things. << That is a lieI made the mistake of putting the telly on while I was having lunch and Raiders was on – you can't ignore Indiana Jones, can you?
I've written PATIO on my list now, that means it MUST be done today, lol. Before 1.45pm, Indy's next adventure is on. lol.
Everyone is out today so I'm going to wrap the presents. I usually sit on the floor with a glass of wine, put some Christmas music on and spread everything out around me, but I don't think that'll work with a nosy dog in the houseI'll have to pile everything on the worktop and do the wrapping on the kitchen table.

Morning all. Thanks nmlc. I wish your problem could be resolved. TRU that's my 2nd fave carol thank you! Leave room on the table for the large glass, it's an essential aid to wrapping!
Welcome back MRS LW we've missed you! JUDI congratulations! CSARINA hope all is well today with your appointment, Oh what a long wait for the funeral. Xmas and NY scupper so many waiting times. CANDYGIRL get well soon. TOPSY glad something is getting sorted with your DS. ELONA good luck with the house buying and selling.
Up stupid early again and was cleaning the oven out at 5.00! It's now sparkling! Managed to avoid dropping any trays and shelves so the DGDs are still fast asleep. We have them till 3.00 again and then DD is taking them to the Brewers Fayre with a friend and her 3 kids, so I have been given strict instructions only to feed them a snack at lunchtime!
Mr TA has to go for his fortnightly bloods today as requested by the Royal Liverpool. These fortnightly visits seem to roll round every week! So far he feels no better but no worse for the radionuclide therapy early Nov. The scan due early Feb will show if it's helped with shrinking the tumours and whether treatment should be repeated. Meanwhile he is keeping well, albeit tired, and eating ok too. Unfortunately the initial weight gain of 6 lbs has stuck at that despite my best efforts!
I'd better make an effort to tidy up a bit soon as SIL is calling up around 10.00. But she has been warned she'll be coming to a disaster zone! The big tidy up will begin when the girls have been collected!
Have a nice day all if you can and (((((((HUGS))))))) where needed. Take care xx Glad you are feeling better DUMPLING."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
Hooray, I feel human again after a good nights sleep. I went to the doctors yesterday and he gave me lots of lovely painkillers. He thinks I have something called TMJ which is basically an inflamation in my jaw joint. I will need to see a dentist at some point too after Christmas to get a mouth guard made to stop me clenching my teeth in my sleep.
Anyway, I feel so much better this morning which is something I am very thankful for.
Hubby is home today as he will be taking an assortment of kids, kids friends and grandchild to the panto this afternoon to watch Cinderella. I managed to book them seats in the front row as well so they will get a great view. My grandson has tonsillitis so he will be staying home for cwtches with me. I will be finishing off the wrapping before he comes over and entertaining my mum and friend as they will be coming to exchange gifts.
I will make a curry for tea tonight as I didn't get round to it yesterday. We ended up having a Chinese takeaway which was delicious. I didn't order too much this time either which was good. My turkey will be delivered today along with all the bacon and sausages and bits for Christmas dinner so I will be clearing and cleaning the fridge ready.
Congratulations Judi on your new grandson to be,
Welcome back MrsLW glad your trip was lovely for you,
Tru, I have watched so many films this week it is unreal, I've also recorded some to watch today as well,
Csarina, I hope your GD will start being more considerate of everybody, sending you a load of hugs,
Hope all the poorlies will feel better today as well.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning all,
Tru my favourite carol :T:j thank you !!
Last day of work today and I cant wait for it to be over :T although we had a great day at the clients party yesterday and lots of fun was had.
I went to Tesco after the party and got most of my last bits and as I was coming out OH phoned to say he had been at A + E all afternoon, a folding ladder had collapsed under him and he had come down on his ankle which was agony, he had no phone on him and was alone, and so lay there for 10 mins while thinking what to do then managed to get himself back to his car and to drive back to work where the secretary took him to A + E, he has a severe sprain and its twice the size and black and blue he has to be on crutches for 7 days !!!!!! I told him that's no excuse for not helping over Christmas and that he can have sit down jobs :rotfl:
Need to nip into a local shop after work as we need DW tablets, cant be running out of them over Christmas
Judi what great news xxx
Topsy hugs to you my lovely xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning all
Welcome back MRS LW ,I've been to the markets at Berncastle & Cochem, absolutely brilliant.
JUDI you must be so proud of your DD.
CSARINA Hugs & fingers crossed for your appointment.
CANDYGIRL get well soon.
TOPSY hugs to you and DS.
ELONA fingers crossed it all goes well.
LW, Yule blessings.
DD & Sil have had a tight few weeks as she went from weekly to monthly pay just before Christmas, yesterday she received a PPI payment, it's enough to pay for a new cooker plus get double glazing fitted throughout the house, woo hoo.
She is still not well, but this has cheered her up a bit.
I'm taking hubby to work, taking DGD home, collecting my meat from the butchers then DS2 is taking my car in for a service, so I will be marooned at home, hopefully this will encourage me to finish (start) the present wrapping.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Good morning everyone.
Thanks for the thread nmlc and sorry about your family problem.
tru - another fabulous carol with decorations - thank you.
TA. - it's good that MrTA is stable, you're doing a great job of feeding him up.
Csarina - it's such an awful situation for you.
Dumpling -.at last you've got some relief.
Yesterdsy the weather was so awful that I never shifted from the house all day apart from getting wood in. This morning I have an early appointment for a hair cut - 8.45 - which is great. Then I've got the sparky coming to fit a small water heater to the bathroom basin, put in a shaver socket in the bathroom ( for toothbrushes really) and change the bathroom light to LED as its so dull.
After he's gone I've got done serious housework to crack on with. Washing, vacuuming and tidying up. The white cotton rugs will get washed, they are both covered in muddy footprints, but st least they're doing what they're for.
I've arranged for bouquets of flowers to be delivered to various friends around the country starting today. I did it last year and they all were really appreciative, mostly as the flowers were beautiful but also for not getting a dodgy present!
AnywY, must get myself sorted. I'm most reluctant TBH.
Happy Tuesday.0 -
Hi everyone,
I had a disrupted night, every time I woke I was aware that DH was missing. I know he's trying to get a project finished for 10 am tomorrow so he probably couldn't sleep and came down to work on it. He was working in a store yesterday (M&S encourage Head Office staff to do that every Christmas) and told them he would go back to help this morning so he was gone when I got up.
I need to wrap DH's presents and if I get on a roll I might do some of the others (usually it's DH's job). I don't think I need any more food or presents.
I hope things calm down for all those going through bad times.
Have a good day.0 -
Morning everyone ,very mild still here in Kent but its been raining for most of the night .I kept waking up every two hours last night, no real reason just found it hard to sleep for long.
I promised I would make some doughnuts with youngest DGS today I taught him how to scramble eggs yesterday and he was quite please with the result and wolfed them down.
No shopping to buy at all so thankfully I am out of the temptations of the mad rush around the shops.
Shortest day is over with and the spring to look forward to, hopefully we won't get and snow or ice in the next few weeks, lots of my bulbs in the garden are half grown already
right the kettle is calling
have a good day chums and <hhugs> to those who are not feeling too bright at the moment

Good Morning everyone, very windy here today but not wet so all to the good. DD1 and I will be heading to W8rose in a mo to get the bulk of the fresh food for Christmas then I can pick up any extras from the village shops if we need them. Nice to be back in my own bed last night and slept like a log. The house is now clean and tidy, yesterdays washing nearly dry in the utility room, Christmas lights on and John Rutter Carols playing away on in the background Oh My I am feeling FESTIVE!!!
There is a wonderful present coming from the BBC on Channel 4 at 8.p.m on Christmas Eve, they are showing a 'slow TV' 2 hour reindeer sleigh journey with Saami herders in the north of Sweden, not perhaps dynamic viewing for some but it will be the spirit of Sweden at this time of year and so beautiful, you might like it, certainly it will be time out in a hectic period!
Hope you're all set for the holibobs and not too stressed, I'm feeling remarkably mellow but I'll see if that lasts past the check out in a few minutes time! Have a lovely day everyone, Lyn xxx.0 -
