QR code on Royal Mail labels?

I've been noticing for a while that some parcels arrive with a Royal Mail sticker that contains QR code(I think that's what they're called?), also some details such as house name is printed directly on this sticker- I was wondering what's the deal with them- are they an alternative to "signed for" and can be tracked? Because the prices on them were just normal non-signed for rates(£2.80)

  • QR codes are on parcels sent by people using RM DMO system for their account mail.

The code is being used to help reduce fraud and from next year it is hoped to offer tracking.

At the moment the QR shows (amongst other things) the parcel weight, service used, account details of the sender and address details of both sender and addressee.

Yes it's what I use - mine don't show the price though?

The code shows the price, the weight, the service you paid for etc.

RMs aim is to offer tracking on all parcels.
The 2D barcodes are the next stage towards this.

  • Interesting, thanks. So "signed for" will become redundant?
I use stamps to send parcels(still working my way though the huge stash bought before the price hikes), will they become invalid?:(

I don't know if SF will go, because it isn't tracked now. It is a signature on receipt. Royal Mail Tracked is the other way around (unless you ask for a signature) it is tracked with no signature. I am guessing the new 2D tracking will be POD but no sig and available to DMO users who don't use RMT.

Presumably they only had them on because you put them on...;)
