Many years ago - more than I care to remember, I registered my domain with UK2
My website is hosted by plusnet, just Uk2 divert my domain name to the plusnet thingy
It's due for renewal - here's the e mail, but I'm sure there are better/cheaper ways now ... are they???
Hi J B,
This is a reminder that your services with UK2 are due for renewal in 14 days on 2015-12-29 00:00:00. If you wish to keep your services please remember to renew them before expiry, so they remain active.
You have selected to renew your services manually or to expire at the end of your contract and so can renew them anytime through your control panel here: https://chi.uk2.net. However, if you'd like to enable auto renewal (also accessed through your control panel), we'll attempt to take payment automatically 7 days before the services expire. Please ensure your payment method is up to date first.
The service due for renewal is as follows...
The above prices are in GBP and the total includes VAT, if applicable. Please don't hesitate to contact us here https://chi.uk2.net/support or call us on +44 (0)20 7053 7698 or +44 (0)845 276 8020 (calls charged at 4 pence a minute) if you need any help.
Kind Regards,
Your UK2 team

£20 a year for 'webdiversion'?? Can you not get access to the UK2 website and simply change the nameservers yourself? That way it would be free.
If the answer is no, then it would probably be cheaper to port the registration to another firm who do offer that option. IIRC the last time I did so it cost about £12. With control of the nameservers, it makes it much easier to move hosting in the future as well.0 -
That's very expensive. If you've got time transfer it to another registrar.
Web diversion can be done in several ways, some better than others. Some providers will offer a simple redirect where the user will see your plusnet address in the URL bar. Some will use frames where they will still see the domain name in the URL bar.
I don't know if plusnet allow you to host a domain, but if they do then that would be the best answer, setting the DNS servers to plusnet. But if they don't then you'll need to use a forwarding service. Many domain registrars offer the service for free.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
Heart Internet and 123Reg do either framed or non framed web diversion which is included in their actual domain cost. About £9 all in for two years from memory. There are other similar companies offering very similar services.
I did use them myself some years ago before running my own server and hosting my websites myself.0 -
Bear in mind that framed web diversion harms your search engine rankings as the contents of the frame are not directly related to your domain.
Frames have been pretty much deprecated from web standards for years now.
I use 123-reg.co.uk and don't pay for "webdiversion" of any kind; just the domain registration charges.0
