We had a beautiful seafood platter last year - oysters, Lobster, mussels, different styles of smoked fish. Of course it's not a money saving starter but thoroughly enjoyable and easy. Served with freshly baked breads, salad and crackers.

I have always had the 80's prawn cocktail, from growing up as a kid to now in my forties. For those that don't like fish we put cubes of cheddar cheese in the sauce. Lovely, simple and retro.

Love traditional prawn cocktail, but only ever have it at Xmas as a Boxing Day starter. Followed by either ham or roast beef main with a huge bowl of sherry trifle for afters
  • Pate and toast with salad and or chutneys/onion marmalade if you're feeling fancy

I don't eat fish so have a sliced, hard-boiled egg instead of prawns. They have to be served in a wine glass though and I generally have a bit of cucumber hanging over the rim :D
