Old Premium Bonds

Some 50 years ago, when a pound was not an insignificant sum, my son-in-law was given two premium bonds as birthday presents. As he has never checked them, he decided to do so the other day. He telephoned the Premium Bond centre, to make enquiries, and was told that because he doesn't know his holder's number the bonds will probably now, after all this time, be invalid. Surely, this can't be true? Can anyone throw any light on this? I mean, supposing it had been 200 bonds?
Thanks in advance.

From the websiteAre my old Premium Bonds still valid?
Yes, as long as you haven’t cashed your Bonds in, they’re still valid and they’re still in the prize draws.
I suggest that he gets in touch again and ask for a replacement record.
When I did this a number of years ago, I found that the £1 bond that had been given to me at my birth was actually registered in my mum's name.0 -
Don't phone write with as much detail as possible.
