Very often word of mouth is much better that a load of esate agents trying to sell you something. I hope my fellow money savings experts can help. Thanks.
the rhondda valleys are the best in terms of schools, but there isn't a lot of work here. I am working away at heathrow and getting back when i can. If you want to know more pm me. My house might be for sale0 -
I looked at the title of this thread and just had to read as i knew Bacup would be mentioned.
Originally I am from cheshire and have lived there all my life up until 3 years ago moving to Bacup.
It really does not deserve the reputation it has. The people who live here are so friendly, generous and thoughtfull. I really enjoy living here and have never felt as safe in my home as what I do here.
Every town has bad bits but in bacup you know exactly what, who and where's of them.
My children benefit so much from living here from super cheap dance classes, free trips to the zoo to owning a pony. none of these would of been possible in Cheshire.
Bacup is also on the up with new shops and buisness's opening up and renovation all over the place. Its is recomended by me fo cheap housing and an all round lovely place.Looking forward to new ventures :beer:0 -

Your post caught my eye because I am also looking into possibilities of relocating to U.K. I'm a subscriber to "moneysavingexpert.com" weekly e-mail, which has given me a lot of insight into the subject. Another interesting site that I check regularly is "gumtree.com". It appears to me that your pension would allow you to live fairly comfortably in many areas of U.K. I'm Canadian born but I also have EU status and citizenship of another European member country, and therefore would have the right to live and work in U.K. You are a citizen of U.S.A. as far as I gather. Do you also have a European passport? Don't want to be cheeky - but do you have the right to live in U.K.? One important area to consider is your health care coverage. Would you be covered under the NHS? Keep researching. Best of luck to you.0 -
Pailman, if you earn any money working in the UK, surely you would have to pay UK taxes?
Also, would your American benefits be paid to you if you lived in Britain?
Do you have the right to live in the UK?0 -
unfortunately i could never bring myself to recommend bacup, but it certainly is cheap, this entire East lancs area i think must be amongst the cheapest (im from burnley)
yeah a mate moved from Suffolk to Burnley and can't believe the different in prices of everything from rent to milk to taxi fares! Also very cheap houses if you hunt although going up now - his was £2.500!!0
