Changing an ebay case type

Comments

  • You can only ever open 1 case, but that is of each sort. There are 2 basic sorts. INR (item not received) and SNAD (significantly not as described). Whilst you can open a case on Ebay or Paypal for both of those reasons, you can only open 1 of each type over the 2 platforms.

You lost the first one which means the seller doesn't have the defect but neither of you now can leave any feedback.

If you read my post above, it already answers the query you have about where to open the case. Perhaps spend a bit of time reading replies and trying to sort things out with the seller.

I'm not sure you can open 2 cases- unless the rules have changed again. You can change a case from INR to SNAD but not open an entirely new case?

You can open an INR and have it closed and still be able to open a SNAD.

I had it done only a few weeks ago. Unfortunately it makes the seller think the buyer is a scammer. :o

Edit - I may have to concede to being less than 100% on that now, the buyer who did this to me purchased from .com site. I'm not sure if their rules are the same? However, regardless, Paypal will still allow the SNAD, but the buyer will have to pay to return.

The trouble is ebay change everything all the time and never update the FAQs, so I feel none of us can be 100% certain of anything anymore.

My only real experience is well over a year ago, possibly nearer 2 - I had an INR which I defended with MyHermes tracking. Then out of the blue a few days later I got an email from ebay saying a buyer had attempted to open an SNAD claim and ebay had protected me by closing this immediately as being in breach of the buyer guarantee (or something like that)

I do see though that in your instance buyer went to paypal for the second claim, mine was on ebay so may well be different.

OP, assuming you can open a second case and win it make sure you use a fully tracked service (NOT signed for!) to return the item, as I suspect seller will not be going out of their way to help you on this. Also, as I have said previously, make sure you watch the time scale for return as there are a lot of days RM/PO will not be open over the coming couple of weeks.

I thought this was the case - if ebay wouldn't change the case type for me - surely they are not going to let me open a completely new case???

It was completely my fault by hitting the wrong button when i opened the case, i realise that now

**CROSS POST** Just seen the reply above which answers my question :)

First try the seller. Then try to open a case on Ebay. If that fails, open it on Paypal. There is no rush, you have 180 days from payment.

But, do come here and report back as it will help others if they find themselves in the same situation.
