Is it worth trying to sell your old student books or are they just better to give them to the charity shop?
Assuming that the books are in good nick apart from a few turned over page corners and a few pen marks in them?

If they're core texts that are still being used, it might be worthwhile going back into uni and sticking up a few 'for sale' notices around your department. The ones with the tear off phone numbers are helpful, although it might be a good idea to wait until the students are back. Or, my uni has a messageboard for students and you could post what you've got on there. If you're not living far from uni you can offer to meet someone to hand them over, it saves on postage and makes them a more attractive proposition for a hard-up student0

Depends how much they're worth etc.
Tbh if it's the current edition the uni's using, you can normally shift copies in good condition for most of the purchase price...
Go to the waterstones or whatever on campus, see what price they're charging for it. Knock 20% off and they should shift - especially if they're £30-40, knocking a fiver or a tenner off the cost is a couple of beers to most students.
Just put a list up on the notice board in the dept and wait for the money to start rolling in.
There is a downside though - people won't think you're as smart next time they look at your bookshelf0 -
I was thinking like a book that RRP for 30 quid new and trying to sell it for 12- 15 quid:beer:0
