Property is tenanted after vacant possession purchase! Please help!

  • so was the vendor living in the property prior to completion? You mention that the 'tenant in question is living in only one room of the property, so who was living in the other rooms???

    I find this quite mystifying.

    Was the vendor living in the property while letting one room to a family of three?

    Did the vendor tell the purchaser that these three were his lodgers?

    If the vendor was not living in the property, how did he ensure that the other rooms were not used by the lodgers?

    Or were the lodgers actually tenants?

    The family is now living in the property without electricity?

    Why were the police called? Did the vendor expect them to evict the family?

    And if the property was bought with vacant possession, then the contract must be void because vacant possession was not given?

    If they are living in one room and the owner was also living there then they are lodgers and it won't be that complicated - hopefully. Have to feel sorry for them this close to Christmas with no electricity and by the sound of it the council trying to get them to wait til they are evicted before rehousing them.
