Fertility treatment costs

Anyone in the same expensive boat, so to speak <sigh>

I'm just looking for somewhere I can exchange tips and excitement and sadness and hopefully joy :)

  • Thank you, but that's a very long established thread and I'm (pardon the pun) very much in the embryonic stages of my journey.

Try the Fertility Friends Forum - a site dedicated to fertility investigations, treatment information and support.

And yes it is eye-wateringly expensive - we spent around £25k!

    Good luck on your journey!
  • Am I not welcome here then? :)

25 - ouch, this is largely what worries me, but I suppose you just have to take a leap of faith at times.

There are only a few members on here who have gone/are going through fertility treatment so it depends on what level of support or guidance you need as to whether this site is most suited to you.

On here we also aren't allowed to post anything which could be perceived as medical advice.

The cost of treatment varies hugely. It depends on where you go, what treatment you need, whether you opt for add-on services and how many attempts you have. How long is a piece of string? I know quite a few people who have spent six figure sums on treatment. Of course you might be "lucky" and qualify for NHS treatment.

Hi, I have been through the ivf icsi process and went private.

Initial iui to test the water so to speak £500
Each Ivf + icsi cost approx £5,000 inc meds
    Each consultant appt approx £250
Frozen embryo transfer £1500 inc meds

I had various surgeries and procedures along our journey which cost between £150 to £4000

I fell pregnant with twins after a frozen attempt in 2011, only 1 twin made it, The embryos that were on ice cost £400 a year for storage.

My embryos frozen between 2007 and 2009 had just the 1 storage charge I had 6 on ice, the 2 that were implanted 1 was from 2007 and the other from 2009, my surplus embryos I donated after my daughter as born.

It cost us £27,000 to complete our journey, some it costs less, some more.

I went via a leading consultant who runs the fertility unit at one of the top hospitals in london due to his success rates and the fact we could pick and choose times to suit us around my husbands work.

The ivf board on here was invaluable and the support was amazing.

One thing to consider is getting it done abroad.

My cousin went through one round of IVF in the UK and the cost was almost crippling and failed so she thought that her chance of becoming a mother was gone.

She managed to get enough money for IVF abroad, I think it was in Prague, which was less than a third of the costs here and is now 7 months pregnant.

I can try to find out the details of the place she used if you are interested then just drop me a private message.

Overall she said the experience in Prague was actually much better than here in the UK with the whole thing being very professional
