I saw a dvd / vcr combi LG machine yesterday in Powerhouse , reasonably priced at £90 with HDMI connection , does anyone know anything of this , it said it was 1080i upscaling whatever that is , also where is best place to buy hdmi cable , it didn't come included , thanks

Upscaling means that the DVD player will take a standard picture and enlarge it to fit 1:1 with high-definition tv set. To be honest, unless you have a very cheap TV it will be able to take any source input and scale it up to fit your TV.
In other words, don't worry about it.
You should be able to pick up a HDMI cable from Ebay for less than £10. DO NOT pay more than this as test after test have proven that for the average viewer there is no discernible difference between cheap cables and expensive cables over a short run (under 5M)- = I also recognise the Robins and beep for them = -0 -
