I see Martin talk about OFGEM approved sites when he talks about energy comparison sites but i there anything like this for the home contents side of insurance?
I want to do some comparisons but want to make sure i hit the right ones.

No. The FCA regulates companies. It does not approve certain ones.
Comparison sites sell policies. The policies are manufactured by regulated companies. Comparison sites are not there to tell you which is best. That is the role of a broker or adviser. which has proved very handy in my case, the main thing i'm looking for is alternative accomadation cover if i'm kicked out due to flood or fire, you see i'm in social housing in London and we don' have enough room for folks as it is so if my block was to be burnt to the ground or flooded it would be a very long time before i'd be back in and that link does give me details on how long they will cover, so i just need to take this info along with what i have read and start getting some quotes, which i will do over the weekend
