car accident insurance question

hi,
i was involved in a car accident about 4 months ago, we exchanged details at the roadside etc etc. The next day i informed my insurance company, I told them i would not be claiming for my own vehicle as i can repair myself, they said they would log the details on their system, it has been just over 4 months and i have not heard anything since i informed them, is this normal or should i be contacting them to see if any claim has been made against me .
thanks in advance,
steve

It will be worth enquiring what has happened, and if nothing ask if the file is closed now.
When you inform your insurer that there may be a claim against you then often they do (temporarily) reduce your NCD.
This can cause problems should your renewal fall due before the claim is closed.
But if there has been a claim against you, then 4 months is not a long time for insurers to conclude the matter!0 -
Insurers are obliged to keep a claim file open for 6 months in case a third party does make a claim against you.0

There is no set period a claim file is open or closed awaiting a third party claim.Insurers are obliged to keep a claim file open for 6 months in case a third party does make a claim against you.
As adult third parties have 6 years to claim for damage and minors have till their 21st birthday to claim injury compensation then a claim file can be opened after much longer than 6 months after an incident!0
