How long should it take for refunds to appear?

I have a Nationwide credit card and used it recently to pay the deposit for car hire with Enterprise. I returned the car last Sunday. When they tried to refund the deposit, the girl told me that there was an error. However, the manager said it had gone through, so not to worry.

I've just checked online and the £200 refund has not appeared. I'm not sure what to do. Do I contact Enterprise or the card issuer? Or do I wait a bit longer?

I received a refund to my CC for non delivery of an Amazon order (Courier = Hermes :wall:)

The refund appeared on my online transaction list two days later. From past experience 2 or 3 days is typical.
  • Did the money ever leave your card or was it just earmarked?
  • The money was taken from the card. But there is no corresponding amount going back in.

I've printed the statements off and we're going to go down there shortly. We're going to take our credit card phone numbers so if they say the issue is with the credit card we can ring them while we're there.
  • Its all sorted. We went down this afternoon. At first, the manager told us that there was no refund due as a hold had been put on the money, so I showed him my credit card statement.

After digging around for 5 minutes or so, he asked me if there had been a power cut when I collected the car. There had been (it was the weekend of Storm Desmond). Apparently they had used a backup system when taking payment and the main system had been updated with the wrong information.

Anyway, he processed the refund then and there. He gave me a print out and was very apologetic. He noticed that I regularly hire cars from them (I hire a car for a week each month). He said he will give me a free upgrade when I collect the car in January.

So all worked out well. :j
