Windscreen cover

Options
Hello,

Could you please enlighten me about how these covers work?

Got stones last eve ad one caused a chip :(
Right in front of my view...

I have fully comp with windscreen cover but unsure if it is worth contacting the crooks at the insurance company...

Would a claim affect my protected NCB or the premium?

Is it better to leave them out and get it repaired with raisin?

My vehicle is 10 years old...

Many thanks!

sultanas currants and raisins do not work.

However you insurance may provide a free repair that does not affect your ncb with nil xs. Look at your policy.

I had a windscreen replaced(£50xs) did not affect my NCB but I did have to declare it. Insurer was LV Frizzel

Shouldn't affect NCB and likely to have little effect on premium.

That would make it worse. Try resin.

What does your policy say about windscreen claims/repairs?

Before you contact your insurer see what a local independent charges for doing a chip repair

(Most insurers now have an excess to pay for repairs, and it is a discloseable claim even though usually not effecting NCD which may impact on the premium do dummy quotes with and without a glass repair claim to see if it will)

If its just a small chip they'll probably repair it - most likely for free. Best thing to do is look at your policy and if there's a glass repair number give it a call and they'll sort you out.

For some reason my old car used to go through windscreens all the time and I had to have 3 new windscreens over the time I owned it. Although you do have to declare this when getting insurance I never noticed any effect on the premium.

Do NOT use your own details. The companies store the quotes and when you take out a policy without declaring the (hypothetical) claim it sets alarm bells ringing.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

  • Thank you for your valuable advices!

Also thank you for the language lessons :)

I make lots of typing errors as English is only third language to me and still struggling...reading this forum regularly I realized that I am not the only one :D
  • If you avoid the heavy advertisers and large windscreen companies, and instead ask around for a small indy screen company who local bodyshops and car dealers/workshops use, you'd be surprised how cheap most windscreen can be if you do your own deal.

I bought one of those kits from halfrods did two chips on my screen can't even see them now. Its probably the wrong time of year to do DIY as the resin needs a reasonable temperature and plenty of UV from the sun to cure properly.
