Saturday 19 December

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Csarina, thoughts are still with you & your family.
Elona, hope the bungalow all works out for you

Morning Floss and all to follow. Mild and miserable here again. It would be nice to see a bit of sun sometime!

Thinking of you as always CSARINA and RIP Nicholas. Much love to you and your family.

Some baking to do today at some point. I made my pastry a while back and that has been sitting in the freezer in readiness. It's now defrosting ready to make my mince pies and tarts - using the jars of Sainsbob's 10p mincemeat bought last January! Whilst the oven is on I want to make another tray of crumble to freeze in squares. Bilberry or gooseberry, can't decide! Mr TA is partial to both, smothered in custard, and has a bowl most days. (I'm doing my best to get some weight back on him!)

Oooh I can't wait for the Strictly final tonight! Will plan our evening meal to be ready for the start. I think I might get some chicken out to defrost and do a curry. I'll also delve into my Xmas stock and get out some choccies to enjoy whilst watching it! Now Anita has gone I'm not sure who I want to win. Maybe Jay I think.

Have a nice day all. So many ((((HUGS))))) are needed on here just now 'cos of illness and family problems. Take care and have a good day if you can xx

• Good Morning all ,very mild ,and dare I say it, actually quite warm here in north Kent.
Managed to get all my presents sorted and wrapped so that's one job out of the way.Today I shall finish off the ironing and get that put away as well and perhaps bake a cake for my youngest DD whose birthday it is today.Bless her she is such an amazing lady ,she works full-time and has four sons and two dogs a hamster AND a husband to take care of,but still has time to spoil me and is always there if I need her .Tessa you are a credit to your late Dad and he would be so proud of you, Happy Birthday honey xxx

No shopping to buy thank goodness as everything is done and dusted for the rest of the month.Still spending an hour a day de-cluttering and will probably have a trip to the tip at some time over the next week or two, lots of recycled paperwork that's been shredded. I would donate it to her hamster, but the little perisher prefers sawdust :):):)

Hope everyone has a good day whatever you are soing
Csarina ,honey you are in my thoughts and prayers

Take care chums

Thinking of you Csarina, hugs to LW, Elona & BB.
We were up at 5:30 every day last week, I managed to stay in bed until 6:30, so that was quite an achievement.
I remembered to put a Christmas box out for my milkman last night & will catch the bin men on Tuesday.
We are visiting family today, tomorrow we have family visiting us. Monday I have DGD for the day, I'm doing the last of the shopping & getting the car cleaned, Tuesday I'm collecting my meat from the butchers & having my car serviced and wrapping all the gifts, Wednesday I have all the DGC whilst their parents go shopping.
Hubby is working next week, but I have finished now until January.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
Chin up, Titus out.
• Good morning all, thank you Floss for starting us off.

Tru thank you for the carols this week, will it be a special one on Christmas Eve?

Csarina sending hugs to you and yours, and what a blessing Nicholas didn't suffer, may he rest in peace. I can't imagine how raw you must be feeling, but know we are all with you and sending love.

I am off to the hairdresser this morning for a much needed trim. Himself has just gone back to bed for an hour. I don't know what time he came downstairs, but he was asleep when I came down at 6 am.

I hope Lyn is having a wonderful time in Berlin with her DD.

DGD1 is due home today with her BF from the big city. She has texted me several times, firstly to say they had checked into the hotel and it was lovely, then to say they had enjoyed Jersey Boys, and yesterday she was in the queue for the Harry Potter Experience. She has wanted to see this since she was younger, so she arranged this as a Christmas treat for them both. I have missed her, it has been 6 months since she moved in and she is no trouble at all. Her room is beautiful and she is so tidy so I don't have any extra work.

Washing is up to date, only the bits we took off last night, so no need to put the WM on. We did our weekly shop yesterday so on Wednesday I will just have the fresh bits to get.

Our other 2 grandchildren will be with us on Boxing Day so I shall do a buffet so they can help themselves as and when. I do miss not seeing them so much, but they are 16 and 18 and have lots of friends now.

Have a good weekend

Hugs

Scampi was really nervous at the rescue centre – everyone knew him so came out to say hello, he was wondering who all these people were and didn't know where to put himself. He recognised the two who spent the most time with him then he relaxed and pottered about, politely asking them for more treats :D I bought him a new bed, his is too big and he looks a bit lost in it, lol. Plus he's chewed all round the edge, I've caught my ankle on the sharp bits a few times and have a little scar to prove it! I'm taking bets on how long the fleecy lining will last, I reckon he'll chew it up in two days :D

I woke up feeling very achy, it's eased a bit now but I'm going to be careful today. I had planned on hosing and scrubbing the patio but that'll have to wait. I haven't vacuumed for two days, the floors look terrible so that's the first job of the day. My kitchen is looking a bit overwhelmed, lol, I need to put all the Christmas things together (somewhere!) and get some order back.

Morning All

Hugs csarina.

My friend has her operation today.

I've finished work and am off down south in about half an hour for a few days. Need to stop at DDs on the way to drop stuff off.

The house is shining like a new pin, washing in that I can leave on the airers while I'm away and the heavy shopping was delivered last night. I also managed to drop off a couple of cards/presents after work so feel I am fairly organised now.

Have a good weekend. Take care. XX

Morning everyone

Csarina - thinking of you and your family x

Now light, breezy and mild, still damp - hopefully the breeze may start drying everywhere up.

Dinner last night was breaded chicken pieces, chips, beans/veg/salad for the menfolk. I had mushroom omelette and salad. Tonight will be veg rice, noodles, chicken in black bean sauce and prawn toast, dumplings, panacke rolls etc.

Today we have a few jobs on the list to do. I've told DH that we need to deliver his parents prezzie and will visit my parents at the same time as they live at the same end of town. We'll be heading into town first to the bank, then to do the visits.

I was reasonably productive yesterday, I got the food shopping done and also managed to buy majority of the drink that was on the list, just need red, white and rose wine, and DH to decide if he has enough beer - I buy it all now and then nothing more, once shopping is done it's finished. I also got some prezzie wrapping done, got xmas cake covered in marzipan, bought last gift voucher/gifts and posted nephew's gift, so am pleased with where I am at the moment. I need to buy a dvd for DH and DS2 - then we're about done.

Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone.

Looks dry outside, well I mean it's not raining at least. It was just rubbish all day yesterday.

OH is here and will crack on with the techie stuff he wants to do in the garden and house. He didn't get to bed until after 1am so heaven knows when he'll stir, we are such opposites. I'm a lark and he's such an owl.

My dauphinois potatoes turned out really well, perhaps too much liquid but still tasty. And so easy too. I also make a beef casserole so we're sorted for the weekend. OH will go back on Sunday night - he wants to see through the project he's working on so I don't complain. I like the time to myself TBH!

The hall floor is drying out well. I lit the woodburner to bring more heat to it and ended up boiling hot.

I'll probably go up to Oban again - I need some plastic storage boxes for the back barn to keep the mice at bay. And I want to look for a off cut of good Lino to replace the soggy wet carpet in that small space.

Csarina - the reason for Nicholas' death will bring some kind of comfort, knowing that he didn't suffer is good. Nothing will bring comfort for his loss however. Keep your memories of him close and the four little pieces of him closer.

TA - you've made my mouth water with thoughts of crumble and custard! I too am excited about SCD final.

tru - thanks for the carol.

JackieO - birthday wishes to your beloved Tess, she sounds a credit to both her parents.

Enough waffling. The shower is calling me...

I hope everyone enjoys a not too frantic final pre-Christmas Saturday.
