Don't forget nuts and seeds! I know you said not fruit - but would he eat 'dried' fruit like apricots, dates or raisins? you could buy a pack of each and make up a 'trail mix' in a Tupperware tub.
another popular snack with my kids was (funnily enough) dry cornflakes or rice krispies! I tried chocolate cheerios once and my youngest wanted to know why I was giving them 'GoCat'!

    Hi OP,

He's going to want to eat every hour (been there, quetiapine, pregabalin and a few others) at least.

I found ice cubes (either plain water or made with sugar free lemonade/cordial) worked really well for the cravings, just get crunching on them. Also, Options 40 calorie hot chocolate, fills you up without feeling icky and hits a sweet spot.

I put on a stone in just under a month, and am still struggling to shift it after three months off the meds. Walking helps a lot as well, or any kind of exercise as it really does take your mind off it.

Thanks Meritaten :) The only reason i said no fruit was because he already eats a lot of fruit, and i find it can be quite expensive at the amount he goes through it. Plus, just looking for new ideas.
Yes, he'd happily eat dried fruit, especially apricot and mango.
He hates nuts and seeds, apparently they taste 'bitty'....no idea what that means!

    Thanks DR.
He seems to be constantly in the kitchen looking for food, literally every 15-20 mins. So it's costing me a fortune! I am hoping he gets awarded some DLA, just to help with the spiraling food costs! :rotfl:

Thanks for the tip about ice cubes, i'll make them up with some weak squash.
He loves hot chocolate,so I'll get some Options ones.

I know exactly what he means - anyone who wears a partial or full denture does! lots of 'bits' of nuts end up under the plate, stuck in crevices etc! I love nuts but wont eat them if I cant clean my teeth straight after.
Ok so dried fruit mix! tip - Poundland do huge packs of dates and has lots of other varieties of fruit in smaller packs.
oh and its usually cheaper to buy dried fruit in the bakery aisle!

OOh, i might have to stock up whenever i get near a poundland, and look in the local 99p shop.
I imagine things like that may be on offer in supermarkets in January, as they try and appease the dieting masses! :D
    Thank You :)

you are welcome hun. I DO know what its like trying to keep an ever hungry person satisfied. My son was often on a certain steroid medication and it has a similar side effect. and I had another son who was always 'starving' too! you can go shopping and the next day the fridge is empty!
  • What about a little portion of crispy seaweed? Might go well sprinkled over some of the more boring raw veg batons. I love raw vegetables, but a child might not, especially if they have started to have a sweet tooth for things. Another idea is a dip.

    Crispy Seaweed
It's not actually seaweed but can be kale, Chinese cabbage (napa cabbage), spring greens, savoy cabbage. You can buy it in supermarkets ready made, but it is so cheap to make at home, and without additives. Normal method is to deep fry, but a healthier method is to roast in the oven.

I normally use Chinese cabbage, so will be saying cabbage, rather than
kale, spring greens but the method is the same.

Wash and dry the cabbage leaves.
Cut out the thick stems (keep them for stir fries or adding to soup. I just chop up and stick in a bag in the freezer for later use).

    Shred cabbage finely.

Place cabbage in large roasting pan and sprinkle with some oil, toss it about a bit. Put in a preheated oven at Gas Mark 7 (220C) for around 5 mins, give it a stir around, and then pop back in the oven for another few mins. Doesn't matter if it starts to go brown a wee bit, you just don't want black, so keep an eye on it.

Drain cabbage of any excess oil on some kitchen roll. Wipe out any oil from your roasting pan, put cabbage back in, and then sprinkle with some seasoning, toss around a bit. Allow to cool and then put into container(s) and keep in the fridge.

Seasoning is normally salt and sugar and sometimes with the addition of Chinese 5 spice powder, but there are other variations such as adding sesame seeds.

I stick to just salt and sugar. Just a couple of pinches of salt, and one of sugar. Recipes on the internet seem to add too much of both for my liking, so you may have to adjust to suit your taste.

Aren't raisins etc packed full of sugar, though? Not great in quantities if he's trying to keep the weight down.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

protein would keep him fuller for longer. Would hard boiled eggs appeal? Cooked chicken? peanut butter to dip apple wedges into? Skyr or greek yoghurt? crustless quiche (these could be cooked in bulk and frozen until needed).
