OP if you have never stolen a vehicle, and your name is on the credit agreement for the caravan tell the police you have NO intention of making a statement.
Is this a case of your ex !!!!!! stirring? If so tell them to arrest her for wasting their time.

This is not from the ex its from Black Horse the finance company
  • Personally, I would NEVER volunteer to give information to the police.

You have nothing to gain by doing so, and everything to lose.

And don't for one second think that these nice friendly policemen just want to get to the truth and need your help. That is not how the police work.

As Marktheshark says, the only reason they want you to come voluntarily is because they don't have enough evidence to arrest you...yet, and maybe you'll be foolish enough to provide it if they ask nicely.

The police are not here to help you. They are not here to serve the public.

They primarily serve themselves, then the state, and sometimes big businesses.

It's also worth remembering that they do not have to tell you truth.

Politely decline their very kind offer and reply to any question asked with "no comment".

From £140 per hour or part of, charged from office to returning to office.
    If arrested, its free.
They only interview people on invite to get evidence to arrest them because they have not got enough evidence to arrest them now.
I think it would be closer to £200 ph but i agree they are fishing and the OP should not attend.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • I think some people watch too many cop shows on TV. It's not unheard of for finance or hire companies to report a vehicle stolen in these circumstances. The Police are just doing their job and investigating an alleged offence. Why not go in and tell your side of things, exactly as you wrote in your original post. This shows goodwill on your part and you have nothing to hide. You can't incriminate yourself if you're innocent of wrongdoing. The definition of any theft is felonious appropriation of property. Whilst technically the vehicle does not belong to you, you have not stolen it. If it's as simple as you say it is then it's a civil matter. The only issue may be the length of time you've had the caravan without making any payment. A couple months then no issue. A couple years then you might have to justify that. Usually a finance company would have to show they have exhausted every option to try and recover the vehicle before Police would investigate it as stolen. If I was you I would go in voluntarily and co-operate. Save the bravado and "no comment" nonsense for the next episode of CSI.
  • Saying no comment isn't nonsense; it is the right of every person being questioned under caution. It stops police adding 2 and 2 and making five. What am I talking about, that never happens obviously

I would say CREAM has given the most sensible advice. Other than a bit of time what have you got to lose. Some of the advice is ridiculous. Marktheshark saying tell them to get a warrant - they don't need a warrant to arrest someone. They may need it to come in and search the house, but do you want to be arrested in front of family/neighbours/friends if this happens outside the house? As Chanz said, you could be arrested on suspicion of.

Doing it this way they are allowing you to do this at your convenience. If arrested you will be doing it when they want and you will still be giving the same details. Even if they say there is nothing they are going to do why do things the hard way?

There are always going to be people full of bravado saying "tell the banks/police/DCA's to get lost" and that they would not do what they are asked. Its your choice really. Do you want to be the big I AM and risk things going wrong, or to sort out the problems you have over payment for the caravan?

Well went to police station not arrested and solicitor got the whole thing dropped in 10 mins didn't even give a statement or was interviewed. Solicitor told me to keep silent which I did.

Solicitor stated that its a civil matter no offence has occurred and that big financial institutes cannot use police as debt recover and enforcement.

Thank you for all you advice I will be getting in touch with Black Horse on Monday morning.

Amazing isn't it. Bunch of travelling folk steal a caravan from a couple in Dorset and the police can't do anything because of 'human rights' and 'its a civil matter madam'. Police turn up and try to caution perfectly honest citizens on the unsubstantiated say so of a business and don't even get told 'no'. Clearly your average plod doesn't know jack about the law since they should have refused to even come to your house let alone force your inconvenience by having to engage a solicitor at your expense and turn up at the cop shop, all for 10 minutes.
