Switching from Nationwide to Yorkshire Bank

I am in the process of switching from Nationwide to Yorshire bank to take advantage of the £150 switching incentive advertised last month.
I was initially planning to close the Nationwide account so I destroyed my debit card. I planned to post a letter to request closure of the account the following day. However, after doing some last minute research I found an offer by Yorkshire Bank so I decided to switch. I requested a new card from Nationwide (so I can login to Internet Banking until the switch is complete).
I have received a letter from Yorkshire bank today stating that the switch was rejected by Nationwide. I called Nationwide and they have explained that this is because I requested a new debit card and therefore it was reported as lost or stolen. They have explained that I have to contact the switching team on Monday to clear this up. I have two questions:
1) Will I lose the £150 switch incentive as a result of this?
2) When I called Nationwide they said there could be a "cooling off" period when requesting a new card. They do not know for sure and do not know how long it is. Does anyone know if and how long this cooling off period is?
