Just to close this off. I didn't hear again from the Landlord properly once I moved. I forgot to hand in the electric key so he called to remind me and mentioned a mark on the carpet. After that I heard nothing until I received a cheque in the post for the full deposit amount!! Yey

In regards to the stains - Nothing worked. I think once it goes brown rather than black its too late and it has permanently stained the floor. I guess it was old enough for the landlord not to care.

Oh well, lesson to learn for the next property if they've got vinyl floors, you might not get lucky with the landlord the next time.
