Where to buy small Free Range Turkey

I know there is some debate about the actual welfare of free range turkey, but i would prefer a free range one still. However there's only two of us eating turkey this year and I don't want oodles of left overs and to be eating turkey curry til Feb.

Can anyone recommend somewhere which sells small free range turkey (ideal crowns)? The free range ones I've seen mainly seem to be much larger sizes.

Lidl & Aldi both have smaller turkeys in the christmas leaflets

Aldis and Lidls normally have a range from small to large as they are not bound by the big supermarkets "every turkey must be exactly 3.2kg" mantra and will take all their suppliers output

Aldi's turkey crowns were fine for us, for the last two years; dinner for 2 adults or 4 adults ,then enough sandwiches for family . However, I don't know whether they were free range. (I didn't check, though I do buy free range eggs)

Would be the best place (other than direct from the farmer), but you'll be lucky to get one now if you haven't already pre-ordered one.

Are there any farmer's markets happening your way OP? You could try there.

Unfortunately the last farmers market before Xmas was last weekend and I wouldn't have room in the freezer to store the bird ATM (even a small one). There's a farm shop with a butchers etc nearby which I'm passing in the week so I'll have a look there, otherwise I'll see if there's a small one in our local Lidl. They actually have a stuffed corn fed free range chicken advertised that looks nice too.

Normally I get ours from Cook! in Nov but theirs feeds 8 and whilst it's lovely, £45 for a rolled Turkey crown for 8 is a lot when there's only two of us eating it.

Saw small turkeys and crowns in both tesco and marks yesterday

I know the tesco were free range bronzes as I was looking at the prices myself
  • Both Herons and Farmfoods have small free range turkeys, I cannot recall the precise weight, but they were priced at £6.00. They also had a huge selection of small turkey crowns, but I did not take note of the price.
