Unless you have a signed document stating that you were going to split bills or something, there is nothing you can do. Even with such a document it may have been difficult.
Just pay it this time and move on. Next time remember to put it in someone else's name or as a shared account. The problem with a shared account is similar in such a situation - if the other person refuses to pay, you will both get records on your credit file. Same problem.0 -

Not sure which dept. it is, but there was a post on here a while back where students can apply for money under a hardship fund (renamed i think now)
You may be eligibile to apply, and may not only get money to cover the loss of the bills, but may get extra money to help you on your graduate course. (i am not sure the exact details, but worth looking into)
