M&S Current Account - Credit Card at same time

Anyone know if you can apply for an M&S credit card at the same time as applying for a current account, either online, or via the phone?

Prefer to do it as part of a single application to avoid two searches.

thanks

If you apply online then they will only open the current account. I'm not sure of telephone applications.

When I switched my account in M&S branch I was told as my account was opened within the last 28 days I can apply for M&S card and no credit check will be made because system already hold credit report details. After 28 days CRA search will be required.

i'm not certain, but i think that a credit card application will trigger a separate search regardless of when it's made:think:
  • it would be interesting to know from someone who has gone through the process to know if they do credit check again or don't.

Have just opened one and i did tick the box for the credit card in the application but all that happened was an application booklet came through the post to fill in.

    Anybody?

First direct did a credit check again when I applied for a credit card a few weeks after opening their current account. Same when I got my HSBC card.

In reality M&S bank is just a brand of the HSBC group - all your statements come from the same place. I was even told I could not have the M&S fast balance app if I already had the HSBC one as the systems were the same and couldn't differentiate. Effectively its like Halifax and Bank of Scotland - different but the same. Even the same 6% regular saver!

So I would suggest almost certainly yes.

Whoever told you that? It's total balderdash.

I tried to register for their fast balance app several times - and I rang up and asked them why and I was clearly told you could not have their fast balance app and the HSBC fast balance app on your phone/ipad etc at the same time as the M&S one would not work. You would have to delete the HSBC one - which I didn't want to do as its my main account!

So who told me - the M&S bank internet banking helpline! If any one knows they should!

HSBC have now of course stopped their separate fast balance app - and the M&S one still doesn't work for me as presumably it still overlaps with the main app..

I know it sounds ridiculous but that is my experience and what they told me!

I think it all depends how long after you applied for the credit card. I will go by my brothers application for FD credit card.

He applied for credit card online just after a week of opening First Direct current account. Application was accepted immediately through his online banking and he confirmed from his credit report no credit search was made.

I remember applying for HSBC account but that was 10+ years ago. They have offered me current account and credit card both in one credit search. HSBC & FD account are one of my oldest account which are still open and the good thing is they are not showing on my credit report.
