Well the store bit was free.Sorry but I can't agree about the second count being false. Their is a fix, the OP just doesn't want to pay for it.
Even if they had said conditions apply, the one they are relying on seems unreasonable. It might be reasonable to require a fee to be paid if the customer was unreasonable in declining the repair. However he is not. It is PC World that are being unreasonable if they expect him to proceed with a repair that costs significantly more than the laptop would cost brand new.I suspect that PC World/Currys legal department will have written watertight T&Cs and these should have been given to the OP at the time they paid. As far as we know this happened, the OP mentions the T&Cs so likely they got a copy.I'm trying to give the OP the best advice I can. I know PC World/Currys have a habit of peeing their customers off. And if I thought the OP had a chance of getting their £50 back I would tell them so. But I really think the OP and others on this thread are clutching at straws. I think their best bet is to speak to customer service - they might get something/they might not.
Personally if I was in the op's position I would not feel I was clutching at straws. I would feel I was morally right and PC World were relying on sharp practice (at best). However if they offered nothing, I would not take the matter any further, because it would not be worth either the time or risk (of losing a legal claim).
I would however remember never to give them any further business. (Not that I would expect them to care, but because I prefer to deal with those I consider decent.)0 -

You Said:
"But the point is somebody would have done that upfront work to work out exactly what is to be repaired and the parts involved, which would obviously be covered by the service charge, no different to the sort of charge you'd be asked to pay by any independent regardless of the cost of the final repair."
You can't go around saying things like that as it is misleading and not true. You are giving the OP false information.0
