The error message I see all the time now:
An unknown error has occurred
Windows Live Mail error ID:0x800c006c
SMPT Port:0
Secure (SSL):No
Can anybody decipher this!!

Unfortunately the links in that article do not work. How do I cancel the existing account and start again using the same password and email address. Wiping the slate clean and starting again might work. Who is my email client - Windows Live or BT Yahoo?

Windows Live is just another email client, a program that allows you to access any email address as long as you have the providers server details and a password.
Your email provider is Yahoo via your ISP which is BTOne by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -

0. record (write down!) existing mail settings AND password
1. disable mail sync/send/receive of current mail account (reason to disable rather than delete - you can refer back to the settings at any time)
2. create new mail account under WLM using settings I linked to in previous post

As above, it sounds like your SMTP settings are wrong. These appear to be the ones you need:

In short, you need to enable SSL, but not STARTTLS, and use port 993.0
