not sure i'd quite agree with that. there are people out there, such as myself, who are prudent and wish to save but need an incentive to do so. i won't repeat what i've said already in this thread (people won't forgive me in case boredom sets in): it would not surprise me at all if the inept BofE do indeed cut rates. they have not got a clue as to what they're doing. witness the cut in rates on august 2005, made to appease house buyers and stimulate the housing market...as if it needed stimulating:rolleyes:BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

i phoned up AI this morning, they don't do monthly interest which is what i need. bottom line: i need 5.10 NET monthly interest for two/three years - i would be happy with that. i do take your point however and i have thanked you. you sound inebriated:beer: and i'm going to hide under my duvet...before you hit me:oBLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? Do any older members remember the highest rates on offer for Fixed Rate Bonds in the last 20 or 30 years? Just out of interest! I think i remember my Dad telling me he had a Halifax Building Society (or whatever they were) branch based account paying 14% gross so there must have been some crazy rates out there!0

For monthly - Norn Rock 3 yrs at 6.40%AER and Saga 2 yrs at 6.75%AER (yes I know it looks wrong!) if you're a wrinkly seem the best deals going0

As someone who's been waiting over 3 months for an isa to be set up by nationwide I hope you are in no hurry if you stick with them
The bonds can be opened in the branch so there wont be the delay that is being experienced with ISA transfers. With regards to ISA transfers however, you wont lose interest as they are backdated.

Unfortunately the rates you quote for Saga are wrong! I checked the rates on the Saga website a couple of minutes ago & the rates currently on offer are:- 1 Year Fixed Rate Savings Account 6.60% gross (annual or monthly interest) 2 Year Fix 6.55% gross (annual or monthly interest).
Until last week it was possible to get a 2 year fix with Saga @ 6.8% gross.
I left it too late & the rates on offer dropped. The Saga products are run by Birmingham Midshires so I went on their website & signed up to a 1 Year Fixed Rate Bond @ 6.7% gross.
BM did electronic ID checks so no problems there. Then they asked for a cheque for £1.00 drawn on my linked current account so they could open my BM account. They are going to set up a direct debit so I can transfer £???? to my new account. I would have preferred a 2 year fix but there is nothing available at the moment.0 -
My gut feeling is that inflation will pick up again, as food prices take effect. So we will end up with another rise. I don't see that after this they will fall again. We still have interest rates below the long term average and inflationary pressures around the world.
On another hand the credit crunch may spread to the UK economy and this is another scenerio - maybe in that case rates will fall. It will be interesting to see what the US do at the next meeting. Some say they are bound to cut rates. We'll see!
I see Icesave are doing a 2 year, fixed at 6.5%. They must know rates aren't about to fall back soon.0 -
Have requested an application form three times now over the last month from Anglo Irish and am yet to receive one. Hopeless service !0
