Still haven't received my CHAPS payment

I recently won a claim and my solicitor emailed me yesterday at 9:43am attached with a letter he's sent to my house saying your money has now been transferred by chaps payment and can take upto 3 working days, however everywhere I have read online says it should go in the same day as long as its transferred before 3pm which my solicitor assured me had been done, so now I am confused the bank told me there's absolutely no way it will take 3 days can anyone help as I'm now very concerned

Maybe he sent it BACS (can take a few days) and called it CHAPS by mistake. You should call him to clarify. If he is billing you for a CHAPS payment fee you should benefit from the same-day service.

I can't really add anything to what eDicky has said, an admirably concise summary of the situation.

or more likely they sent it via the Faster Payment System (FPS) which guarantees by the end of the following working day, so it might turn up by tonight.

  • Thanks for the replys, I think they have messed up, usually he is very swift with his responses within the hour, today he has yet to reply which is unusual
  • A favourite trick of solicitors is to send you a cheque in the post so they earn interest on their account until it has been cashed.
  • I specially told him not to send it by cheque so shouldn't be the case

are you serious?? have you seen the miniscule interest rates paid on bank accounts these days?? unless the solicitor is hanging onto millions of pounds of your cash the interest earned from having your money in their account for a few extra days wouldnt even cover the cost of the stamp
  • He emailed me back and has no informed me it was a bacs transfer 😂

Good, just make sure he hasn't charged you for a CHAPS payment - BACS should be no more than a couple of pounds, if anything, whereas CHAPS could be as much as £40.
