Help with removing a stain from oak table

I need some help please.

My husband put a lager can on our solid oak dining table last night and it's left a dark ring on the table which is still there this morning. I tried putting a hairdryer on it last night, which didn't work.

What can I do to remove it?

Liberon do a product for removing stains from solid wood. Failing that, as it's solid you could gently (and with very fine sandpaper, 240-320-400 grit) sand the stain out then apply a finishing oil or varnish.

Looks like either the Ring Remover or the Wood Bleacher would do the trick.

Mayonnaise on a paper towel leave for a while and then wipe off buff up should work.

Thanks, I will try the mayo method first as that looks to be the easier option.

If its a black stain with a blueish tint then nothing with remove it apart from completely re sanding and re finishing the table. Oak contains tanic acid which, when comes in contact with metal releases the tanins in the timber. Oak isn't like other timbers where you just get a white ring.

Do not try and use any "wood" bleaching products , vinager or any water based products. The first two will bleach all of the timber it comes in contact with and water based products will bring out the tanins even worse.

Other options posted on here such as soda,sugar,salt etc may work on other timbers because they absorb the moisture out of the timber but Oak is different ,once you bring out the tanic acid you can't get rid without re finishing the whole table top.

Only option is to completely sand off the lacquer/wax or oil finish and re finish.

Or put a coaster over the marks......

But the black stain is not water its tanic acid so no amount of soda etc will remove the tanic acid. Thats the problem with Oak, if it was on Ash,pine etc then it could be solved but not on Oak.
