Help Coffee stains on Carpet

Currently I am on holiday in Australia staying with my Brother
He has a new beige/coffee coloured carpet in his Family room.
Last night I tripped on a raised part and the mug of coffee splashed all over the
Carpet. We soaked as much of the coffee with kitchen roll .
This am it looks pretty bad 2 areas one semi circular and the other much smaller.
I wanted to get a Professional carpet cleaner to deal with it.
We have looked online suggestions spray wash up and plain water .b Another Soda Water and yet another water and vinegar. We have treated it twice and a lot of the stain has come out. Should I let it dry and then retreat? I am wary in case we were to remove the colour. I know Vanish stain remover us had for this.
Can anyone offer any cleaner or methods. I am wetting the blotting up with a clean white towel . any advice would be great ! I feel guilty and they do not have accidental insurance so my SIL seems to think. I am happy to meet the costs.
Thanks Sue

This is a tip I found online a while ago, it works pretty well :

"Blot up as much of the coffee as you can. Then, mix one tablespoon of liquid dish soap, one tablespoon of white vinegar, and two cups of warm water. Using a clean, white cloth, sponge the stain with the mixture. Apply a little bit at a time, blotting frequently with a dry cloth until the stain disappears. Finally, sponge with cold water and blot dry."

If that doesn't work, then I'd be looking at either getting a professional cleaner in, or else hiring a carpet cleaning machine for half a day - you can then go over the whole carpet so that you don't end up with one patch cleaner than the rest. I've no idea of the cost for this in Australia, but in the UK it's not a lot - for example, HomeBase will rent out a Rug Doctor machine for a day for £22.99.

    Hope this helps.

Aye, I've used white vinegar and baking powder on coffee stains - it's very effective. Obviously a lot easier on a synthetic carpet than a wool carpet.

Thanks for your responses The carpet is looking better but I think it now needs to dry and repeat with what you are suggesting
It is a synthetic carpet I think ? Going to leave it to dry overnight and repeat with your suggestion in the am 20 30 hrs now.
Thanks and will let you know how I get in

Still working on it Tried the wash up warm water and vinegar as suggested Tried soda water on a very small area . The larger area is about saucer size but in a semi circular . t
The centre is OK Waiting on it drying and see how it looks . Definitely improved .The carpet is a pale coffee just a little bit liggter. I got quite of staining on the white towel I blotted iit with
My Brother and SIL won't let me oat to call in a Professional .I am a nervous wreck and expended a lot if time and energy working on it
Thanks again will update the outcome. Sue
  • I suggest you try some solution with lemon content. Lemon is good for removing stain. Since it has been some time, that the stain is in the carpet, I'm not sure how much of the solution you have to use. Anyways, you can give it a try. If still the stain remains, then like you have said, it's better to hire a Professional team to do the work. They will have the necessary solutions and equipment to completely remove the stain from the carpet and make it new.

Thanks for that The stain is much improved but in certain light and it is a carpet which shows footprints marks when you vacuum you can see it a tiny tiny bit.
My Brother says it is OK but he is so fussy and houseproud. I have offered to pay for cleaning
Their accidentally home contents would cover it but an excess of 300 Dollars I would gladly pay but no they won't agree .
In the meantime I drink Coffee at the dining room table If I am going outside I go out through the laundry
I can't do any more and it has blighted my holiday. I am so nervous in case anything else happens
Thanks to everyone who has offered advised Sorry for the moans
    Happy Christmas everyone Sue

Replacing the carpet is a bit extreme. And...if the carpet were replaced they would only replace that room it'll be a different colour to the rest of the house.

I suggested this but no that was not acceptable My SIL bought a product which says it will remove many stains including coffee My Brother says it will take the colour out There is a bit of carpet to test it on I am done spending hours on my hands and knees
I have done all I can and I am making it his problem .
Were this my own I would have it sorted in a jiffy My holiday is ruined as I am scared to move in case there is any other problem I feel like terminating my holiday and going home There is literally nothing to see on the carpet but in his eyes it is not perfect Sounds like an Agony Aunt column
    Thanks again Sue
