O/S Daily Friday 18th December 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Csarina – thinking of you and your family x

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. Boys still in their pits, they don’t need to be up at this ridiculously early hour. Went to bed too early, DH woke me when he got up for work, can't get back to sleep.

Still dark, damp underfoot but mild.

Dinner last night was chicken in a creamy mushroom sauce, mash, carrots, broc, and LO Yorkshires. Tonight will be something and chips for the menfolk, I’ll be having mushroom omelette and salad.

I was quite productive yesterday – I’m pleased with the amount of chores I got done, I managed to get all the washing/drying/ironing done, although I think there’s a few bits in the drier that still need ironing, they were too wet to iron. Talking of irons, my seems to not be steaming very well, so I decided to try to descale it – didn’t appear to do much, and couldn’t find any instructions – so will try it again today, but googled it for instructions, and the list of complaints about my make of iron was huge – and the complaints were mostly about the same problem I have, and the manufacturer has been approached by many customers and they don’t want to know. I won’t be buying another of their products. It’s not good as it’s a steam generator iron and they are not cheap – this was in the sale, now I know why! I also got some housework done, stripped and changed our bed, got some jobs done on the pc, cleaned out the fridge, wrote a menu plan and shopping list for today when I visit the SM this morning. Visited PO also, sent cards and bought gift card for nephew so that’s ready to send. I wanted to get the xmas cake covered in marzipan but realised I don’t have a cake board, will try to get one this morning, if not I’ll find an alternative as it needs doing today or tomorrow.

Today I’ll be heading to the SM shortly, then cracking on with the chores, boys beds need stripping etc. I’ll then continue with chores and I’m hoping to get the prezzie wrapping done today, then I can see exactly what I have for my boys – I know what I’ve got for everyone else, I’ve not spent anywhere near what I usually spend – I’ve told both of them I’m not buying this year for the sake of buying. Eldest couldn’t give me or anyone else any idea of what he wanted – so he’s got a few little bits to open and some money. Youngest has a razor and a PS4 game, then other gifts to open.

Have good Fridays’ everyone x

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning all. Another one up stupid early!

First of all, as always, CSARINA my thoughts are with you. Much love x

Yesterday was frenetic with all the appointments (and hanging around for them) Back to the Consultant Urologist yesterday but, alas, no miracle cures have been found for the constant uti's. It's now 2 years since they kicked off. More a/b.s to try and also a supply to keep in to self treat when another happens. Then a dash round Sainsbugs for the few (allegedly!) items I needed. Somehow more things ended up in the trolley too. Back home for a quick lunch then the surgery appts. I picked up the BP monitor and then waited (and waited) for Mr TA's appt. There seems to be lack of communication between St James, the Royal Liverpool and the Surgery. His GP had no idea what the up to date position is. It's not on is it?

The DGD's are still fast asleep so peace on earth for now. Last day at school for them all so when DD's Xmas rota starts at the weekend we will have all three both day and night whilst she's on early shifts through the next two weeks! Although between Xmas and New Year their dad's partner is on holiday and has offered her services which eases the burden for us a bit. She couldn't be more loving towards them if they were her own and they absolutely adore her too. He is lucky to have found her and we just hope he treasures her better than he did our own DD.

Well once the DGDs have gone to school I have the delights of a Friday cleaning day and boy does it need it! The place is like a disaster zone! This afternoon my DB and SIL are calling with their bag of presents for us all and we will swap them for our big bag! Mr TA delivered more gifts to his family whilst I was at the hospital yesterday so gradually we can see the floor upstairs!

Have a good day all (((HUGS)))) to all those in need. TOPSY I hope you can get some help for your DS and he is ready to accept it. What a worry for you. JUDI don't belittle yourself, I'm another "looker after" person too and I think we do a sterling job! I was at my DM's beck and call for about 8 years and my life wasn't my own. When she died my services were then needed for childminding as the DGD's came along. Now Mr TA is on the list to be looked after some of the time too and I just wonder who will look after me if it comes to it?! I'll worry about that if it happens! Take care all xx

    Morning everyone.

Well, the builders turned up yesterday as promised and worked on the hall floor. First the piece of sodden carpet was lifted and taken away and then the poor blokes had to scrape away about three layers of ancient tiles and flooring, took them ages. The crack was really big and right across the width of the hall. I had to go out, couldn't bear to sit there whilst they worked and couldn't get upstairs to 'hid'. The weather here was awful.

I went for a drive towards Campbeltown, after five miles the skies were clear, bright and sunny. I stopped at Tayinloan for a bowl of soup and watched the wee ferry going across to Gigha. I was tempted but resisted!

When I got back the repair had been done, floor tanked and new cement poured. :j

Today I will get the living room back in order, it's a mess right now with both sofas pushed out of place etc.

Wind is howling again, may be awful today. Hey, ho.

    Thanks for the song tru.

Good to hear you survived TA.

    Thoughts still with Csarina.

This time next week it'll be Christmas day, scary.

    Happy Friday everyone.

    Morning All

Topsy, I hope the Drs appt can sort things out.
TA - Gosh, you're going to be busy, a lot of appointments too.
csarina - Love and hugs to you.
tru - Thanks for the carol, hope you and Scampi enjoy your visit to the rescue centre, what a lovely thing to do.

Last day of term today, elf outfit on again after some repairs last night, I wore it to the hospice christmas party - it seemed to go down well. One of the staff thanked me for dressing up, seems a small thing to do at a place like that.

DD had a day in London yesterday, she took the first flight to London City, had a day with her SA friends. They met at Covent Garden for breakfast then went up the tower thingy at Olympic park, went on the cable car, walked for miles to the Winter Wonderland and got the last flight back. Oh to be young!

Bedding in the WM, mopped all downstairs floors last night, will finish the rest of the house later today.

Have a good Friday! Take care. XX

    Morning all,

Still very mild here but damp too so not good for hanging washing out. Had a busy day yesterday went for my blood test and then went to local shop for cauli and broc and leeks to make my cauli cheese for xmas day ( I have three veggies coming and they like a cauli cheese with the meal) so will take that to work tomorrow to make it.

I posted my local cards and popped back to drop stuff off, I then popped into town and bought bits and bobs including candles etc for the table. Had mum for dinner last night.

Today I am going to do the online shop and wrap the presents, as long as I get those two jobs done I shall be happy.

Topsy I hope the dr can help with your DS, what a worry xx

    Csarina thinking of you xx

    Have good days all xxx

    Morning everyone,

Clear and dry here, girls really mooched about this morning and dragged their feet. My head feels woolly and am blocked up, hope haven't got a cold coming.

Need to get over the stables early and sort my boy out, then my DOH is taking me out to lunch before heading off into BuryStEd to finish up the shopping, just need a few more stocking fillers for him and my DM then am all done. Compared to what I used to buy its not much at all but feel like each thing has had far more thought put into it so am happy with that.

Topsy really hope that your son gets the help he needs
Csarina my thoughts are with you and your loved ones.

Hope everyone has a good day x

    Morning all,

Well I was agonising over whether to go to the Christmas party at the retirement home at Mom's today knowing my brother and his girlfriend would be there but that decision has been taken out of my hands. My daughter hasn't had a good night with my poorly Grandson and has asked me if I'll have him today instead of taking him to nursery.

No real hardship as far as Mum is concerned. I'll go and visit her tonight and I'll still be there at the carol service on the 22nd.

Onwards and forwards whilst thinking still about Csarina too,

    Have a great day all.

  • Good Morning chums ,the sun is out at the moment, and its not in the least bit cold, hopefully it will keep the bills down a bit.I have a day at home today as my son-in-law is working from home, so he will be there for when the boys come in from school.

So I intend to get all my ironing done and up to date and also to finish off all the present wrapping. Then with luck I shall be able to relax and put my feet up for a change :)

Tomorrow is my youngest DDs birthday so I am round in the evening to dinner and cake etc.
I am also doing a bit more de-cluttering of paperwork etc indoors its piling up and I must sort it out into manageable piles at least :):):)

Csarina I know perhaps you will be far too busy at the moment and I am thinking of you honey and hope that things aren't too grim for you.Its an awful time of the year to lose someone you love(not that any time is a good time ) but it seems more emotional .

We are all here for you when you want to rant or cry .take care of yourself
    Much love JackieO xxx

Yes I will freeze it and get it out Christmas eve, doesn't go watery at all, make a nice thick cheese sauce and you should be fine xx
