I've sold an item for collection and I needed it gone. Buyer messaged me same day saying can I collect tonight.
I was going out so said I would leave the item outside for them ( not high value) and asked a neighbour if they'd take it in if it wasn't collected an hour after he said he would collect.

On my night out so didn't check eBay.
Next morning found a message saying -will be there much later.
Obviously , I don't like people calling late anyway and would have batted that off somehow but the item wasn't there much later.
I don't even know if he called at all.
I messaged him asking when he'd collect-he said he was going away.

If you ask for an item to be collected within a timeframe and they don't-where do you stand? He payed by paypal that's a risk I was prepared to take but I really want to get rid of the item.

  • You can't force someone to collect when you want them to, which means you are always at their mercy. Likewise, they are at yours as they can't force you to be in/available when they wish to call.

Your only issue now is a Paypal INR/chargeback.

I agree you can't force someone to collect when you want them too, but I can force someone not to collect when I don't want eg 11.00 at night.

It was a calculated risk, I split up,a group of items and have made more money selling one than I've been offered for the lot so there's a financial incentive
He's just messaged me this morning asking to collect tonight. I won't hold my breath. Perils of collection
