accidental damage - last insurance year?

I damaged my worktop about 12 months ago by placing a pan on it that was too hot. There is a faint circle.

I have found a joiner who may be able to fix it. I changed insurance provider in July. I told both insurance companies about the issue.

Who would I make a claim to? I had accidental damage and the same excess on both policies.

The one who insured you when the damage happened.

Is there a time limit on when you can claim? I did inform the insurance company at the time of the accident and at the end of the policy.

The person I spoke to was not sure

What does your policy say? In theory there shouldn't be as long as you haven't prejudiced the insurers position/costs.

Although your claim will be against your old policy, you will also have to inform your current insurer that the "loss" you previously reported to them has now become a "claim".

Yes, I told my existing insurer when I opened the policy. They said my premium would increase by about £50 if I make a claim on the old insurance policy.
