credit/debit cards with no non sterling transaction fee?

Hi All,

I play online games that request purchase of credits (which can be refunded). This virtual cash counts as "buying currency" and so on debit and credit cards I am being charged "non stg transaction fees". Are there any cards without these fees which don't require annual fees/a particular balance? I've only spotted 1-2 cards so far and I have not had those definitively confirmed as of yet. Ideally there'd be about 10 cards or more, but it doesn't seem likely at the moment. I've read a few articles (some from here) on the subject and only one card has emerged (which has yet to be confirmed).

The two unconfirmed cards so far are Aqua and Halifax clarity.

Many thanks.

What 'confirmation' do you want? Aqua Reward and Hx Clarity are confirmed. I don't think it's the case for all Aqua cards.

Was it this MSE article that you read: Top Travel Spending Cards?

What do you mean unconfirmed? Aqua and Halifax are both card with zero non-sterling transaction fees. Check out Cheap Travel Credit Cards for other options.

  • Oh Sorry for the misunderstanding,

I simply meant I haven't double checked there really is no fee. My thread is not asking for confirmation, I'm looking for more cards than the two so far. :)
  • Darkidoe, thank you I did not see that article. However, I note the MBNA card which I came across before. The article does not state there's no non stf fee but, it seems to imply so. It is talking about not having the non stf fee and MBNA being among the top of the list and MBNA clearly states "NO FEES". If you click "apply" then "faq's" it states:

Will I be charged? We will charge you handling fees for balance transfers, money transfers and cash advances (i.e. obtaining cash or cash substitutes by use of your credit card or card number, including cash withdrawals from an ATM or over the counter, buying non-sterling currency or traveller's cheques, paying for gambling transactions or making electronic cash transfers other than money transfers). Transactions made in a currency other than sterling, that we then have to convert into sterling, will also attract a non-sterling transaction fee.

The article doesn't imply anything. For MBNA Eeryday Plus it says clearly: "Exchange rate fee: Europe: 0% | Worldwide: 0%"

The information on MBNA website is very clear too: "No fees for using your card abroad" and "No fees on non-sterling transactions".

However, Visa, Mastercard and Amex rates generally aren't identical:
Mastercard vs Visa for using abroad - which wins?
MBNA Everyday Plus vs. Halifax Clarity

Most cards treat gambling transactions like cash advances (check the T&C) and charge accordingly, and it's still absolutely unclear what sort of "online games that request purchase of credits (which can be refunded)" you play.
Also, it's a mystery why you need so many cards - fraud springs to mind.
