Hi All per the title i am looking to get an ipod or ipod video. I am new to Ipods so have a couple of questions. If i buy an ipod can i only download songs from itunes? or can i put my existing mp3 files on the ipod with a conversion programme or similar?
If i get a video ipod - can i put some of my exisiting dvds onto the ipod or do i have to pay to download the videos from elsewhere?
Should i go for a 30gb or strecth to an 80gb - i intend to use it mainly for music and perhaps a couple of 2 hr ish dvds uploaded to it.
Is there a better system on the market or similar for less money etc.
Any advice greatly appreciated!
finally who's got the best offers on the ipod video at the mo?
best regards Huggins

All your existing mp3 files should work OK without converting. iTunes allows you to rip your CD's to mp3, aac and a few other formats.

Yes. There is free software available to rip and encode the DVD to an ipod video compatible mp4 format. Google "DVD decrypter" and "videora ipod converter".

I'm happy with the 30 gig version for just music plus a modest amount of video. To give you an idea, a 1.5 hr dvd will encode to about 600-700 MB for an acceptable display on a 5G ipod

ok Many thanks for reply - i haven't been to the shops yet to view either of these Ipods - is there a difference in size between the 30gb video and the 80gb ?0
-
The only difference in size is the thickness (11 mm for the 30 gig and 14 mm for the 80 gig). That means that some accessories (covers/cases etc) are specific to the size.
